Pentax K-01 for video

So I have a Pentax K-30.
Unfortunately it's not really designed for recording video.
My idea is to record video with a potential wireless mic set up.
Is the K-01 suitable for this?
With the price drop is this a cheap option for me?

Thanks.

As far as i know the video is the same between the two.

Besides, no photo-camera is really designed for video to begin with.

The K-01 is going to behave just like the K-01, except that it supports external mics (which is a big plus).

The K-01 does not support HDMI out during recording.

"Besides, no photo-camera is really designed for video to begin with. "

Really? Because the Canon 5D MKIII seems like a pretty bad ass video camera to me! So much so that it is used on short films, commercials and to shoot major TV shows.

But back to the K-01 discussion...I just ordered one at the new low price as well specifically for the use of video. I recently purchased a Rhode Pro directional mic and an external digital audio recorder. Already have a sweet Manfrotto monopod with video head and flip out feet and it is awesome for video. So seems like my video kit is nearly complete.

Looking forward to shooting a student robotic competition next weekend with a K-5 with DA* 16-50, a K-5 with a DA* 50-135, and the K-01 with either a Sigma 10-20 or the DA 40 on the monopod.

So you can't use an external mic on a K-5? I thought it had a external mic-in jack on the side.

I am wondering if any of you use a Hoodman or something similar. Are there quality options other than the $119 Hoodman?

Believe me you don't want to use that.
By for 100 dollars an external recorder, Rode actually made external mic with build in recorders.
It's the same difference as shooting with JPEG and the camera in auto-mode vs shooting in RAW and manual mode.

In tests Tascam scores very well but most use Zoom recorders.

In an interview with the design team, one of the designers mentioned the Prime-M processor in the K-01 was tuned for improved video processing over other Pentax cameras

Prime-M is also inside the K30

But when it comes to imge quality the K5 variations are better, they use MJPEG and they use the hardware SR and not a software variation.

I use this: Flashpoint Swivi at Adorama.com for $120. Works great. Nice build and features.

I actually was looking at that Adorama version of the loupe as well. Glad to see it can still be mounted to a tripod. I was a little concerned when I saw the design was for the loupe to attach via the tripod mount on the camera. So there is a standard tripod mount on the bottom of the loupe attachment? I plan to attach (when I get this or something similar) to my Manfrotto monopod with video head and the swivel tripod feet...I forget what the model number is but it is the setup I see tons of people using for video on the go.

Yes - there is a standard tripod mount. The Swivi mounting brackets are very adjustable too. It just barely adjusts to the K-01 but it works fine.

No, but the AV output on the USB port does support viewing the rear screen whilst recording, you just need a monitor that has an AV input. Same on the Pentax Q.
