My K-01 just arrived

So, I've been lurking here since last summer but I didn't actually own a pentax camera so I haven't been able to participate in the great community here as much as I would have liked. But! I ordered a K-01 from adorama last week and it arrived today.

I've only owned a dslr for about 18 months now. My other dslr is a nikon D3100 that I basically bought because costco was sold out of canon t3i's. I was in school at the time and all of our camera gear was canon's so I was familiar with them. I like the nikon. It's served me well but I'm not happy with it. I was planning on renting a K5-ii and a few lenses for a week to try out the Pentax but when I saw that Adorama sale I realized that I could buy a K-01 for around the same amount of money as renting a K5-ii.

I've had only a few hours to play with the camera but so far I am really impressed. The all metal body and metal switches and buttons blow me away. The K-01 makes my D3100 feel like a cheap piece of plastic.

I've only had time to take a few pictures but this one of my dog Ernie really impressed me. The camera was running in P mode. I was really just trying to get used to how it feels in my hands, where the buttons are, how the buttons feel. But the exposure is right on, the autofocus was super fast, the colors are great. All I did to this photo is adjust the white balance so it's a touch warmer than what came out of the camera and add lens corrections.

Anyway, I'm very excited to have this nice camera to learn and play around with. And I am looking forward to being able to participate more in the community here.

Thanks for reading :-)

Welcome HE.. The dog is a real cutie.

I find that I prefer my K-01 in Tracking Focus Mode with the focus zone set to it's smallest size and the number of super sharp in-focus shots I get these days is remarkable.

Good luck and enjoy your new camera mate.
