I got a Gordy's for Christmas exactly like yours Docwrm, but the metal ring gets in the way of my index finger for depressing the shutter release. I'm gonna have to get one with the string instead.
Hmm, I have the metal ring on my Gordy's strap attached to the K-01 and have had no problem with the ring getting in the way of my finger for pressing the shutter.

Does your setup look like mine?

It looks exactly like yours. We must just hold our K-01s a little differently.

Yes, my 3rd draft has the hole for the IR, Thanks for the feedback.

Are you sure you are using the optional "o-ring strap bumper" (the little rubber o-ring) that cost $1 extra? It helps keep the metal ring from sliding back and forth, thus it never gets in the way of my finger-- whether I use it the regular way or the thumb depress method. But it is also possible we do hold it differently, or that my hands are smaller!

Yes I do use the o-ring, and I think that's actually the problem. With the o-ring in place it gets in the way of my index finger when shooting like a normal camera. Without it is able to move out of the way. And I too have smaller hands.
We must just hold the camera slightly different.

GG78, is there any update on your K-01 grip project? It looked promising, I was just wondering if you were still working on it.

Yes, I am still working on it. not as much as I would like. I do have 3 fitted prototypes that are in daily use on my brick. working out the kinks. I will post when I have it narrowed down to a final working grip. Thanks for the interest.

Good news

I was just thinking about checking in on this thread yesterday as I was hiking and holding my K-01. Count me as a buyer when you get it figured out. I'm not looking for anything fancy, just a little extra grip in the front. I've got big hands and after 3-4 hours the K-01 gets awkward.

Glad to see the wheels still turning on this ..
In the meantime I've cut one of the Flipbac G1 grips in half. It attaches perfectly (inverted) just above the red LED on the back & makes a great thumb rest. Makes for 2 servings!!

I have big hands and this thumb rest made all the difference, may actually be all I need. Still don't like to annoying rubber flap though..

THANKS to this thread for the idea: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/138-pentax-k-01/250524-simple-diy-k-01-thumb-grip.html

You're welcome

Do you have any pics you can share?

I've got a flipbac grip on the front of the Canon S95 I was talking about in the link thread you linked.

Here's mine with a Gordo strap...

atop a Three Legged Thing tripod. Belt and suspenders solution to grip. Still, I have no problem gripping the K-01 handheld as is. I am missing something here...

It's a square body with an un-ergonimic grip. People with larger hands particularly are looking for a way to make holding the camera for longer periods of time more comfortable. What is there to miss?
