How did you end up with a K-01?

I'm curious to see what where all the K-01 owners are coming from. Check all that apply.

It was cheap and I wanted to try one out. I had a Kx, and have a K5. It's and interesting camera, and will most likely be converted to full spectrum eventually.

It was cheap! I got it for $300 I think. With the same sensor as my K-5, it was a no-brainer as a backup once they dropped the price...

Liked the design and the cheap price. Wouldn't have got it for full price.

The extra choice:

After lusting for a Yellow K-x (not available overhere) and a Yellow K-r (wich was in limited supply available for a short time at the end off the lifespan off the K-r) I had to jump in on the Yellow Brick. Most important in this was having the same battery and sensor as in K-5 (only marginal different) and giving better video.

Other reasons for purchase

I already have K-10, K-20 (2 copies, 1 Katz-eye for older lens, and K-7. I bought the yellow $249 free freight offer from Adorama. This offered me a chance to get K-5 image quality without the higher price. I love the focus peaking for my manual focus lenses. I love the image quality. I do not like squinting at the viewing screen in bright sunlight, the flimsy rubberized media cover, or the poor auto-focusing in low light. I do not like the poor balance when using zoom lens, but on the other hand, my FA77mm limited seems stuck to this camera anyway. For value, this was simply a fantastic purchase, a camera that may well hold its value or appreciate over the next few years.

What does that mean, to be converted to full spectrum? Will I have to send it in to have the conversion performed?

I had a K-30 and a Panasonic G1. I got the G1 used for a very good price with the intent to adapt Pentax and M42 lenses; I quickly learned that not having in-body SR SUCKED, so I got rid of the G1. I carried on with my K-30 and then came across the Groupon deal in late December for the K-01 with DA 40 XS for $300, I jumped on that deal. For that price, how could you not buy one? I sold the DA 40 XS (since I already had the DA Limited) and so the K-01 body came out to be about $175 bucks- for that price, I couldn't even get an old K10d or K20d.

I bought a K-01, mainly because I was looking for a second body to compliment my K100D.

There's nothing wrong with my K100D, but I've always felt that having a second body is more of a necessity, than a convenience.

I also felt that while still functional, the design of the K100D is about 8 years old, and wanted a camera body with more up-to-date technology. After slowly reading up on the K-01, I liked its features. I took the lack of an optical viewfinder, and slow auto focus into account, but after thinking about it for a short while, realized it didn't bother me.

I was looking at the K-01, and the K-30, but when the K-01's price dropped so drastically, I couldn't let it slip through my fingers.

In the poll, I checked, "This is my first mirrorless camera," but that's not 100% true. This is my first mirrorless digital camera.

I learned photography on my father's 1950s Konica rangefinder, and handheld meter. Mirrorless cameras are no strangers to me, and I always liked the fact that they were quiet, and there was no mirror swinging up and down every time you made an exposure.

I've had my K-01 almost four months now, and absolutely love it.

Other than parties and events, I use a tripod for about 90% of what I photograph. The K-01 was made to be on a tripod.

It's also a perfect match for manual focusing with older Pentax lenses, and my Lensbaby.

I find I can focus more accurately with the focus peaking feature, than with my eye alone.

I had aslo been looking at the Kr and Kx, but neither of them got me very interested.

I'm glad I hesitated, and was in the right place and time to buy a K-01 for an excellent price.

This is a fantastic camera.

Mine was bought on impulse because it was heavily discounted. Probably the first big discount of he K-01, back when I bought it. Didn't really expect much, but its IQ made me love it.

I've been using Pentax SLRs and entry/midrange DSLRs since the 80s. I liked the quiet shutter on the K-01 for indoors work, but wasn't impressed with the button layout. Then I read an unflattering review that said the only people who would buy a K-01 were:

1- Eccentric artists ("eccentric" definitely, "artist" maybe)
2- Camera collectors (well, I do have a box full of old Pentax bodies and lenses)
3 - Pentax diehards (did I mention the box full of old Pentax bodies and lenses?)

Clearly, this camera was made just for me! As it turned out, I really enjoy the camera and getting away from the viewfinder. So, just to spite the nasty reviewers, I bought one in each color.

long time pentax fan here...used to use (and still have) an mz-5n with 35-80mm and sigma 70-300 lenses so was planning to get the new weather sealed DSLR cameras but the k-01 was available for cheap so would have been rude not to at that price as only had a point and shoot Sony cyber shot

It was cheap, couldn't pass this, plus its design is very unique. On top of that it is not bad camera at all.
