K-01 and Sigma 50-150 f/2.8 II won't AF?

Just got a gorgeous Sigma 50-150 f/2.8 II lens this afternoon. I only have my K-01 as my K-30 is somewhere between CA and NH as we speak! However, I am on FW 1.03 on the K-01 and the Sigma lens will not AF. It exhibits the same behavior as the Tamron 70-200 f/2.8. MF works wonderfully and it's quite sharp at f/2.8! Can someone confirm that this combo does/does not work?

Mine focuses on my K-01 without a problem. However, it sounds like you might need the lens' firmware upgraded by Sigma for the live view to work on the K-01.

I have a K-01, along with my K-5 and the wife's K30. We have a Sigma 70-200 f2.8 macro and it also doesn't AF on the K-01. The lens is fine on the other cameras. I expect that there is a issue between some Sigma lenses and the k-01. If you can hold off and try it on your K30 that will tell you if it is a combo problem not a lens fault.

I will wait for the K-30 to arrive. If it's a lens/body combo it's not the end of the world...I mainly use my K-01 with my Pentax SMC-M 100/f4 macro lens. I found a thread over on dpreview (ugh...hate going there!) that mentions having to send it in to Sigma because it needs to be update to work with CDAF. Weird because my 18-50 2.8-4.5 HSM lens I had worked wonderfully on the K-01. I will ring Sigma and find out how much it will be for the shipping.

I don't think so, but I'm not an expert on this. If you're fine with using the viewfinder to focus the lens and think you'll never use the LV on your K-30, then you could just keep the lens as is. But if you do want LV focusing (whether on the K-30 or K-01), you would need to send the lens back to Sigma to upgrade the firmware. You would have to pay for the cost of shipping naturally but I don't think the actual service is that expensive. Let's just hope that the autofocus issue is limited to the lens firmware and not some other problem. Once you get your K-30, you can confirm this!

I will wait for my K-30 to arrive. It's coming from Japan....just taking a bit longer than expected. It's unlikely an issue with the lens, but it still have 30 days of warranty left anyways.

It does sound like your lens may need firmware updating. I had the same issue when I first got mine and it would not live view AF on the K5 I had. Sigma provides updating as a courtesy regardless of warranty status apparently. However since I bought the lens directly from their outlet as refurbished I requested that they pay for shipping both ways since it should not have left without having been updated and they agreed. Turn around time was quick and AF worked as expected when I got it back. I now use this lens on my K01 with great results and with its true MFD of 1m vs the 3m MFD that was typical with my previous K5 so it is definitely worth updating...even if you have to pay to ship one way.

I found out my Sigma 18-125mm HSM doesn't autofocus properly on my K-01 either. Works great on my K-x but not the K-01

Just got my Sigma 50-150 back from Sigma in NY. Kudos to their service department. They received the lens on May 20th and when I came home today it was sitting in a nicely packaged Fedex box outside my front door. Talk about turn-around time....and it works wonderfully on my K-01 as well as the K-30. I am amazed at how quiet the lens is!

Glad it worked out and it seems to mirror my experience that I mentioned. It is an excellent lens...fast, quiet and accurate. Since I had a K5 and not a k30...can you tell me if the lens can reliably utilize its true MFD of 1m on the k30, as I mentioned I could only get about 3m on my k5. The k01 however can do the 1m with this lens and as a combo they truly rock!

Makes me want to continue to do business with them.

Just snagged a quick shot of my cat and the MFD seems to be right on with the K-30.

Hey that's good to know...definitely something to consider for owners of this lens, perhaps I may end up looking for a good deal on a K30. BTW ...so both viewfinder and live view show this result?
