Pop-Up DSLR Flash Diffuser for K-01

Just curious if anyone knows or has experience with an on-board pop-up flash diffuser for the K-01? Just looking for something that would give me a more balanced/diffused fill light for portraits and such. I've seen these but don't know if they'll attach properly to the K-01:

I seem to recall that if you use the hot shoe to hold a diffuser the flash on the K-01 refuses to fire. Can anyone confirm this, I don't have access to my popup diffuser just now.

Well, that would certainly be unfortunate, rendering these little jobbies completely useless.

Reviving an old thread, but... did anyone find out the answer to this? Will the K-01 flash refuse to fire if you use the hot shoe to hold a diffuser?

you wont be disapointed, while we are at it let me ask you this. What are colored diffusers supposed to be used for? I have only used the white one, but in what occasion would I need to use orange and blue?

Different colors are used to balance for different light sources - florescent for example. With built in WB in cameras this is less necessary than in the past if you shoot in RAW.

I own that exact one and used it on my K-01 for a little, all it did was soften the flash, but not even in a good way, as if you just lowered the flash power in camera so in the end it's kind of useless regardless of what camera you use it on.

When you remove the cover for the flash shoe you will see that under the left lip there is like a small contact plate that moves up - when press down it disables your built-in flash because its assuming that you have installed an external flash.

It doesn't get disabled when you have the flash shoe cover because you will notice that the cover has the left side lip cut - that's the reason why is cut.

So... if that pop-up flash diffuser doesn't press down on that contact plate, I am sure you will have no problems... however, if it doesn't work, that means that the contact is pressed and you most probably have to cut from the diffuser's "foot" to make sure the contact is not pressed.

Just received the $8 kit from Amazon today and it works fine. I've only taken a few shots with it but so far I think I like it. I tend to use the on-board flash at the lowest setting (-2) and this softened it and created a more even fill flash. I could see using it in an indoor setting or for impromptu/unplanned portrait sessions (whole kit fits nicely in my messenger bag along with the cameras so no real reason not to keep it with me). I'll probably end up taking it along to conventions where the indoor lighting is quite poor. The added bonus was they also included a remote trigger from JJC which I like using for long exposures. Always good to have an extra one of those laying around.
