Focusing hunts for a while..

Hi,
My father's K-01 hunts for quite a few seconds before it auto focuses...he is using an old 28-105 lens from his film days. Are there any issues with the K-01? Any suggestions on why? He wasn't shooting at night, but just indoors. Thanks.

That lens is f4 at the best, CDAF just isn't good in low light with slow lenses.

I suggest you update the camera firmware, it should improve AF. There are many threads with instructions on how to do that, if you are interested.
But yes, the K-01 (and all other mirrorless cameras) use a different type of focusing than DSLR cameras, and this type of AF does not work very well with lenses that have a big minimum f number. Usually this is zoom lenses. There is a thread in the K-01 forum somewhere that lists lenses that do not AF well on the K-01.

Indoors is usually low light, older auto focus lenses especially long zoom ones with a wide zoom range were just old manual designs that had a focus drive fitted, these have quite a few large heavy lenses, which have loads of mass, to move a long way to achieve focus, modern lenses use rear focus, just a few small much lighter lens elements at the focal point of the lens a very short distance to achieve focus, it has to be much more accurate, but takes far less time. The K-01 has not got the strongest or speediest focus motor though, it has to be said, with modern lenses it doesn't need to have, the focus motor is tiny, the fact that it moved all that lump of glass and managed to focus at all is actually quite something.
