Marc Newson -- good enough for Leica

I've been a Marc Newson fan since I first purchased my K-01. Amazing to think that it's the K-01 I reach for, over my K5, most every time I head out with a camera.

Apparently Leica are fans too. Marc Newson and Jonathan Ive (of Apple fame) were tapped to design a one-of-a-kind M as a fundraiser for (Red).

This is the Jony Ive-designed aluminum Leica M camera for upcoming RED auction (Gallery) | 9to5Mac

Marc Newson is not a bad designer at all, but he is too academic. I like the Italian designers much more, they have a more natural talent.

Mac Pro meets Leica!

It seems to be somewhat lacking in the ergonomics department, but I suspect more pictures will be taken of this camera than with the camera. But hey, it's for a good cause. Whatever it takes to get people with too much money to give up said money.

I only reached for the K-01 if I couldn't find my K5, so I sent it out and had it full spectrum converted. Now the yellow brick is really cool.

There's only one reason to buy a Leica. I can't think of any reason to buy a Leica that doesn't look like a Leica.

Wow, that's a lot of resources to go into a single camera. I wonder if they will ever go into production or if it will forever be one of a kind.
Won't be cheap, I bet...

They reduce the effect of gravity on your pocket?

I'm a mac fan for the last couple of years, but I really prefer the look of the regular Leica M. I wouldn't want that one even if it were cheaper. Marc Newson is 0-2 with me. Love my little K-01, but I hate the way it looks.

Okay, 2 reasons. Snob appeal and gravity.

Looks like an old studio microphone.

I actually like the look of my K-01 - it immediately grabbed me visually in a way only the SV, K-series Pentax bodies and a few mechanical Nikons do. And it actually resembles some old Leica i forget which.

If I read that article correctly it states that Ive designed that camera so your score card is invalid.

OP said it was a collaboration. Didn't read the article, turned off by the photos.
