Does Pentax 50mm 1.8 lens fit my new K-01?

Dear forum

I have a K-01 with the standard 18-55mm lens on order, and was going to order the Pentax 50mm 1.8 lens for better in door low light performance.
However, I read a line on dpreview that worries me - it says:

"The lens doesn't use the internal focusing method that underpins most lenses that are quick to focus with contrast detection AF, so we would not expect great performance with the K-01."

Is this true and should I therefore avoid pairing this lens with the K-01? (Found this lens in Denmark at a really good price, so it would be great for me if it works well with the K-01).

Best regards
Eivind

The Pentax DA 50mm f1.8? It should be perfectly good on the K-01. Just make sure you use the latest camera firmware update (it includes all the previous updates) - it improves the focusing a lot, compared to the original firmware.
I think that the DA 35mm and DA 40mm XS also aren't internal-focusing, but they focus really fast. Faster than the 18-55mm in my experience. I think the DA 50mm f1.8 is a good choice. Though, I dont personally own a DA 50mm to try it - I have an older manual version

It will WORK and it will work fine, the review is just guessing that focus performance will be slower than other lenses. Is that even true? In any case, I wouldn't worry about it -- the larger aperture (than your kit lens) will help with the focus accuracy so I wouldn't expect you to notice any performance problems.

I think that the focus speed thing might be that, I don't think this is an SDM lens, I think it might be screw drive only. If that's true that might be what they are talking about with focus speed, the SDM lenses have quicker, smoother focusing because of the motor in the lens.

It will focus just fine, but it'll be a bit loud (just like the 18-55mm). Eventually I'd say that you might want to look at upgrading to the 18-135mm for everyday use, as it's got silent AF.

You say that (Adam) because the 18-135 is an SDM lens right?

Actually DC (Direct Current) instead of SDM (Supersonic Drive).

Thanks for that, I didn't realize there was another motor type, time for me to do more research. I always thought there was just the screw type AF and the SDM AF. I can't believe I didn't notice that after all this time, LOL!
