Good videos and in general K-01 video capability is very good. I did notice that when audio is recorded by k-01 and not overridden in post-production, there is a hissing noise.
I happen to have the same issue, I record school concerts using external microphone and usually use a dedicated video camcorder without audio issues, but when I tried to use K-01 to record sound with the external microphone, I heard a hissing sound during "silent" moments. Tried lowering gain, it reduced the hiss, but also reduced recording audio too.

Unless Pentax can fix this issue in firmware, I guess I will be using the camcorder mostly.
I could record sound separately and the mix it in with the video, but don't want to spend that extra time.

Cheers!

There is a way in premiere to easily clean the noise out, but i would have to look it up again on how to do it.
I think any post software will have some noise reduction tool..

Yes, that is true, but it would be nice for K-01 to be able to record audio cleanly, don't these filters remove some "good" audio along with the hiss too?
I mean, that is an extra step and is a workaround an issue that could have not existed.
If this is not a hardware issue at K-01, perhaps pentax can fix this in firmware 1.05?

Otherwise I love the camera, use it much more often than K-7 and really like to use the M lenses with it.

This was using the internal microphones of the K-01. I think they did a pretty good job picking up the music. Lens was the FA43, not quite wide enough but good for the low light.

That's caused by the 32kHz sample rate, and the noise floor being too high - the SNR of 32kHz samples will never be as good as 44.1kHz (CD quality) or 48kHz.
48kHz is pretty much the 'HD Standard' - BMD/DaVinci Resolve won't open video files where the sample rate is below 48kHz.

Why only 480p?

Because my slow internet connection took forever for the higher quality file. The size difference between 480 and the next size is substantial.

I did this earlier - used my K01 with 50mm macro and then edited in FCPX. http://www.flickr.com/photos/zachmanchester/13275749705/

I love my K01.

Zach: I followed the link to the youtube version, Effing Love it! Well done.

Only criticism is noting the occasional stutter in the focus pulls and sliders, but given the exceptionally small scale of the movements needed, I don't think anyone using anything less then Cookes or Zeiss primes and robotic sliders would be able to get any better results.

Hi there PiDicus Rex - Thank you I used my tripod and 50mm macro, both not really suitable for video. I was really annoyed at the stutters too, but there was little I could do about them. The Youtube version is straight out of camera - no colour grading etc. I used the reversal Reversal Film setting, which has never really let me down.

Yeah, at that sort of fine motion, the sort of lenses and gear you'd need to get perfectly smooth motion,... is cost prohibitive.

I spotted this via other links, could help guys like us with tweaks to match Pentax glass. It's a 3D printed device.

www.shapeways.com/model/1088077/nifty-fifty-canon-50mm-f1-8-follow-focus-adapter.html?li=curatedproductGroup&materialId=25

I've been wondering how hard it would be to 3D print ergonomic body parts to rehouse a K-01 in a decently comfortable body.

So I went lens shopping, there was a guy with an advert for a heap of different lenses, one he had was a Sigma 100-300mm that would fit in well with my current collection and nicely cover some long distance stuff, like Moon rise videos, city landscapes, etc etc.

Anyways, he also had a "Formula 5" 400mm f1:6.3-22. Casing looked clean and well made, but it wouldn't focus and looked hazy, so he said "$20 ?"

Who'm I to turn down a potential bargain, or an opportunity to pull a lens apart and learn more about the insides?

So I strip it, found one of the elements was showing signs of having been 'cleaned' before, with either chemical contaminant, or a cleaner used that has reacted with the lens coating.
That element has been cleaned with some very gentle soap and cotton cloth that has been through the wash so many times that it's soft enough to use for lenses.

Put the lens together in same order, I can see through it and it focuses from 6m to about 10m, but not to infinity.
Swap the order of the two inner elements, I can do infinity, but not the close end, limited to about 20m at the marked 8m point.
Closer look at the threads shows original thread sealing compound on the inside of one thread, and the outside of another,... A ha,..
Flipped the inner elements mount, used the order for the inner elements that gave me the infinity focus, which turns out to be the correct order for the elements - flange - sensor alignment, and bingo - 6meters to Infinity,.... Sweet!

So, here's the test shots I did with the K-01 yesterday. No grading, no audio, no IS, plenty of heat haze warping.
Think I'll need me a new, longer, Rails & Matte Box kit.

Assuming I haven't screwed the upload and Vimeo doesn't mess it up..

As for the 100-300mm Sigma lens, that was $50, and looks to be sharper then my 28-200 Sigma.
