Excellent time lapse. I hadn't really thought about it much till I saw this.

Would also make a great pinhole camera due to lack of mirror.

Okay how in the heck did you do this. I have the K-01 and have no idea how you got such good exposure with the stars. On manual mode, long exposure or bulb they never look this good. I don't even know how you manage this while doing time lapse. Please just tell me the secrets and help a brother out! Would you recommend this 14mm lens over the other 3rd party companies? Thanks, Dave

Most of the night scenes are shot at 25 seconds, f2.5, iso 1600. But you have to vary this a bit with different lenses and lighting conditions. If the moon is out you have to shorten the exposure or drop the iso because its too bright, and wider lenses can take longer exposures without the stars streaking. I also do a little bit of processing in LR, typically pushing the whites and the clarity slider up to maybe 25 or so. Its tricky to try to get the stars to boost up a little and still have a dark night sky. I'm not totally happy with my technique just yet, but getting this far is easier than it looks. It also doesn't hurt that most of this was shot in the middle of the Weminuche Wilderness, 20 miles walk from the nearest road, and more than a hundred to the nearest real city. Its pretty awesomely dark there.
Thanks again for all the compliments!

Great for APS-C Pinhole Also

The K-01 would also make an excellent pinhole camera. No mirror mechanism to get in the way even for very wide angles.

I really appreciate the tripod/fixed locations - the slider is overused nowadays and makes me queasy! Fast-action timelapse and slow-mo drifting at the same time just doesn't suit me, or can only be taken in small slices.

That camp scene by the creek is really cool; I haven't been able to backpack in several years, felt like I was there.

The sequence at 1:32 is STUNNING!
I would add one more to your list of what makes the K-01 great for time lapse:
It's square shape means the sides are flat which is nice for setting on a flat surface without a tripod (not so common in the wilderness as in town.) Basically gives you an easy vertical option for shooting.

Loved the video, what are the lightening flashes at 2:10? Looks like somebody with a van de graaf generator was zapping the other tents.

My guess is that's just campers walking around the campsite with their flashlights on.

Did you shot photos in 4:3 or 16:9?
