Does the Sigma 17-50/2,8 work on the K-01?

I need to quickly replace a faulty Tamron 17-50/2.8 and and I'm tempted by the HSM focusing of the Sigma EX DC OS HSM etc but: does the AF work on the K-01? I know the AF of the Sigma 50-150/2,8 HSM II does NOT work on the K-01 (nor with CDAF on the K-5) because of some peculiarity of the firmware, and I want to know if anybody uses the 17-50 on a K-01, and if it works?

Meanwhile, I've also checked with the Sigma repair shop that there is no firmware update for these lenses for Pentax, contrary to what's been stated in the forums. And they have their news directly from the factory.
Either the lens works as such, or don't buy it, the rep said.
Only problem is you don't find a lens for Pentax off the shelf here.

Hello Kameraten,
I have the Sigma 17-50 mm F2.8 without the OS and it works just fine on my K-01

Thanks for the info! And if someone has experience with a more recent version of the lens I'd appreciate that as well.

Slightly off topic but are you not happy with the Tamron's performance to replace with the same lens or just want to try something new? I've been pretty happy with the Tamron 17-50 myself.

Would also like to know if anyone has any experience with both lenses in regards to IQ and AF speed.

I was having some issues with my Sigma 17-70 on my k-01 and my k-x's LV, and I checked around on the forums. Another user tipped me off to send in the lens to Sigma and state these issues while putting in the phrase "GMR module", which is something to do with how it reacts to CDAF. Thus Sigma updated my lens on warranty and now it works very well with the k-01 and my k-x in LV. Perhaps you could try that route with your 50-150 if you care to.

I've been very happy with the optical performance the Tamron, especially after I got the K5II which even manages to focus it correctly. It's just that it's wearing out and becoming unreliable, plus it's always been noisy.

I would try that if the repair shop here would know how to do it. They say they have no updates or instructions about the matter.

You would need to send it to Sigma (in North America, that would be Ronkonkoma, NY).
