Jimbo...,
Yes, I have one and 50mm f1.7 A works fine. The peak focus makes the manual focus relatively easy and accurate. But I have to admit that I don't keep it on the k-01 that much. I really like the small size and flexibility of the Pentax F 35-70mm with autofocus albeit much slower than the 50mm.

The 50mm only comes out for low light on the k-01. I have both the f1.7 and the f2.0 50mm A lenses and they both work fine but optics on the 1.7 are way better wide open.

I have the K-M 50 f2, since firmware v1.04 and the fix to the ISO auto-gain issue, it has become a very useful lens for me for video.
For photos a 50mm is a great choice for a walk-about lens, with the +/- button set to 'preview'.

I don't use the A50 very often on my K-01, but I have an A28/2.8 on it now, and it's a great combination. Using A lenses on the K-01 can be a little tricky if you try to set the aperture manually using the lens ring in any mode except M; the camera will hold the aperture wide open. However, you can set the aperture manually in M mode. I wrote up detailed descriptions of all the aperture ring/mode settings in an article, K-01, Manual Lenses, and the Green Button. Hope it is of help.

I use the Pentax M 50mm f1.7. It doesn't have the A mode, but it is optically very similar. Its a great lens and works well on the K-01, especially with focus peaking (since the lens has no AF). You just need to learn a couple things, but its very easy and you become a more skilled photographer for it

I have the 50mm F1.7 SMC A on my K-01 and it works great. I usually give it a couple of stops, say around 2.8 and it is amazingly sharp. Great lens for the money.

Oh and btw, I use even older lenses like the Helios 44-2 and Industar 50-2, with m42 adapter. Love it. I think quite a few Pentaxians use old primes on their K-01

Using M or A lenses in the manual selected Iris positions is easy, you just have to go in to the menu and tell the camera to allow the shutter to be released without the Iris being set from the body.
Think it's in the last page of menu items.

I did have the F 50/1.7 and loved it.
When I bought my K-01, with the 40mm XS lens, I decided the F 50/1.7 could go.
So I sold it, and picked an excellent condition A 50/1.7 for those times I need a faster lens.
It's a joy to use with the focus peaking K-01.
I highly recommend it!

Huge fan of the A 50mm/1.7, it is the mainstay lens for my K01. Absolutely adored the portraits I've taken with it.

I recently found a great local deal on a pristine A 50mm f1.7 attached to an old Program Plus body, and it works really well on my K-01. You can often find really good deals on these lenses when you buy them with an old body.
