New K-01 User - some lens questions and advice

Just purchased a K-01 (birthday present) along with the 18-55mm and 50-200mm kit lens. My mainstay has been a K5ii with an assortment of primes.
50mm DA 1.8, 35MM DA 2.4, Rokinon 14mm 2.8, 100mm f4 M Series Macro and a K and M Series 200mm.

I have also purchased a 50mm M Series 1.7 ($28) with the intention of using it on the K-01.

I plan to use the K-01 as an "always with me" camera, although I usually carry the K5ii with me but it is more awkward on occasions to have it there all the time. (Also a back up for the K5ii) I am also thinking of some street photography, hoping it won't be as much in "your face" as the K5 in general.

I would appreciate any thoughts you might have regarding walkabout lenses from my collection, and whether I should sell the kit lens and replace it with the 18-135 or 16-45 DA lenses?

Thanks in advance.

Mike

Frankly, while the 18-135 and 16-45 will certainly work well optically on the K-01, I think both are already getting a bit big on that body. You may feel otherwise. I picked up a DA 18-55 II just to use on the K-01 in case I decide I really need a zoom in a given situation. Otherwise, I use only primes on that body - the DA 50 f/1.8 and my DA Limiteds: 15, 21, 35, 40 and 70. You already have the DA 35 f/2.4, which is a fine lens, and two 50mm lenses. From the looks of it, I'd say you're set for now. I wouldn't add any lenses until you run into a situation in which you felt you needed a specific focal length. Unless you find a DA 40XS for a really good price, of course.

I'd keep the kit 18-55, just to have, especially since it's value on the used market is so low.

I find the DA21 to be an ideal partner for the K-01... but I agree with Biro, I wouldn't add any lenses for now.

The 18-135 is surprisingly small and works well on mine. It will be a definite upgrade from the 18-55 and 50-200, and will also pair well with your K5.

Maybe your K-01 is screaming for the 20-40mm lens.

I definitely agree-- it makes the K-01 almost a point-and-shoot, with the ideal focal length. Works better as a walk-around lens than the DA 40.

This is what I did also-- I got a DA 18-55 WR to be a lightweight zoom for the K-01. I find having a longer and heavier zoom defeats the purpose of the K-01, and without a substantial grip, the camera balance is all wrong. The K-01 really needs to be used with some nice prime lenses.

Another nice match for the K-01 is the smc-F 35-70. Here's what it looks like:

Thanks for the input

Thank you all for the input. It is good to be reminded how a smaller lens/camera set up really makes a difference in people's attitude. When you are roaming the fields it doesn't matter, but once in or around folks it makes all the difference.

I am hoping I can learn something about candid street shooting with this camera, as I am used to photographing things that don't talk back.

When I want to take as little as possible, I find the DA21 and the F35-70 complement each other nicely. The F35-70 lens is a bit longer and faster than the 18-55 kit and it has a macro setting. It's shorter than the kit lens, but it isn't any lighter. If you can get hold of the metal hood for the DA40, it works well on the F35-70.
