I don't own aK-01 but a Q1 and a K5-iis. I don't understand why they are not updating the K-01 series!?
When the K-01 was launched, I thought about buying one.
Should I?

Well, if you want a V8 engine in a buzz box (car) then definitely. I love the simplicity of the body and its toy like appearance. No one takes it seriously ...... silly them

They are cheap at the moment You can get one for $250 relatively easy.

If you find one (used) with a low shutter count (less than 5-10'000) for around 200-250 Euros (better if with the DA 40mm XS), I'd say buy it yesterday...

Like most K-01 users, I feel it really needed a tilting screen (or even an articulated one - might have attracted people from the other side).

It would have made the Mk1 so much better.
Well why not a Full Frame sensor inside and of you go.......

(borrowed it for my facebook)

Bleh why not in a fancy color?

If you compose and focus your shots on the K5-iis only using the lcd screen then the K-01 may be the right camera for you

Haha, seriously!
And we had other good K-01 mockups on this forum, as well! I remember one with alternative materials, instead of the rubber that so many people objected to. When it comes to FF in a K-01 body, I would like that, would even give up SR for it.

1. I've yet to test SR performance in a meaningful way & not convinced of its usefulness... ATM I'm keeping it on because I believe it's better than not having it, but I'm not relying on it...
2. Rubber is the only thing that prevents my right hand from slipping on such a tiny grip... I've got BIG hands!

Would a FF sensor fit? If it would Ron's idea would be a winner.

Well, Sony's A7 is not much bigger...
Compare camera dimensions side by side
It's also a little bit thinner, if seen from above.
Don't know if a new mount would be needed though...

The K-mount can fit full frame. I mean, it was originally a film mount, and if it fits film, it should fit full frame as well. And even previous, m42, m39, m37 mounts supported full frame - with the same register distance and smaller mount diameter. The question is just about SR and how big the rest of the camera would have to be. The Sony A7 shows that full frame doesn't necessarily mean the camera has to be as big as a D800 or 5DmkIII. If those A7 were native K-mount, with some Pentax pixie dust (WR, Menu, controls, dials and green button), mmh, Pentaxians would go crazy over them

(but K-mount cameras will have to be a little thicker than many of the modern mirrorless mounts, simply because the register distance of K is just a little wider. This means the "mirror" box is bigger, even if there is no mirror inside. For mirrorless, Pentax was thinking of making XS lenses that would actually go inside the camera, and fill the mirror box a little, but these lenses were never produced, since K-01 line was stopped)

But would the lens opening be large enough not to cover part of the sensor.

*snip*
SR on digital will need a larger image circle.
