K-01 Kept me with Pentax

A year and a half ago I rashly decided to go mirrorless with a NEX 6. I sold my K-5 and started to sell the lenses. Luckily I continued to use my DA Limiteds, DA*60-250 and 50-135 with the K-01. I soon realized that even on the K-01 these lenses were far superior to anything Sony had on the NEX. IBIS on the K-01 was particularly important. Of course the 60-250 is a bit awkward on the K-01 but it did the job while I bought back my equipment. Thanks to the K-01 I am still a Pentaxian after 40 years!

Nice to hear! The K-01 is a great little camera. Sony has its strengths, but it has its weaknesses as well..

I agree it's a great little body. Sometmes is tough in bright light to focus without a hood especially since I use it with my zeiss manual lenses. But it's got its place in my bag.

...menu system?
I'm very pleased about that on my K-01... every important option is right there where it should be, as opposed to my old K100D Super, where I had to push "ok" and then select ISO, WB, Drive mode etc...

Really, about the only thing I have ever missed on the K-01 is an OVF or EVF. The Sony EVFs are wonderful and very compact. They make focusing with manual lenses very easy and accurate. Still the Pentax DSLRs and lenses suit me better.

Great to read. I did use the DA*300mm on my K-01 for portrait. It works but small lenses are far more preferred for the brick.

Still love my K-01 too!

I still love my K-01 and Pentax lenses too. I was just up in NYC last weekend and had my K-01 and DA 15. I had forgotten my regular tripod so I had the K-01 on a small table top tripod on my back pack sitting on the rocks...this was about a 6 sec exposure just after sunset...not bad considering the wind and situation.

Gorgeous photo of NY. More proof of what a fine camera this is.

Shooting in a pool with two synchroniced swimmers, but I looked at it and they didn't make the cut at the end.

A lovely shot. The K-01 along with a small prime makes for a fun and fairly compact travel companion.

I think IBIS is an aspect of Pentax cameras that is undersold. Other than Sony DSLR/SLT cameras, no other APS-C system has it.

When I shoot telephoto with my K-01, I use an EVF loupe, so not only is the risk of sun-induced glare on the EVF eliminated, but the stability of the camera is increased because I can hold the camera similarly to a conventional DSLR.

I love my K-01 and Q. Using it more than the Q lately though.
