K-01 Not Saving Date or Settings

It seems my 2 year old (purchased new) K-01 with OEM battery (kept on charger between uses) all of a sudden will not keep its date or settings. It asks to set the date every time I turn it on. The removable battery is working well and is charged. Is there an internal battery? If so, could that be bad? Any suggestions?

I had the same issue with K3. See these threads. Most probably an issue with the capacitor, as others more enlightened pointed out.

My K-01 did this from brand new out-of-the-box and my original Q started to do the same recently. It's a nuisance, but doesn't take long to reset the date.
In both my case it's only the date and time which are lost, all other camera settings are retained.

I had the same thing with my k30 recently. I wound up sending it to Precision who fixed it. I believe it is a capacitor that has gone bad and no longer holds its charge.

Turned on my K-01 after reading this thread, and mine is doing the same thing, I can still take pictures by pressing the shutter button, but it will not keep the date and time, it just freezes when I input the current date and time and it will not allow me to press the OK button. I am ever so disappointed as I really love this camera.

That sounds quite different. Mine functions normally with or without the correct (current) date.
The date setting is lost because the internal battery no longer holds [enough] power between main battery swaps.

Some of us has had rather similar issues and solved them on the Q:

None of those 'solutions' work with my Q.
And certainly not with the K-01 either...

I have just fixed my K-01 with the same problem by replacing this supercap on the mainboard.

Same thing eventually happened to my Q as well.
Would love to have seen a step-by-step sequence to this repair.

That other thread referred to a part: Elna America DCK-3R3E204T614-E
Does that part work for the K-01?

I bought them locally for $3 each and have a few spares. I can send if you pay for postage and also cover my cost. PM me.

See the attached picture of what you need to do:

Please pay extra care so you DONT break this flex cable when opening up the camera:

Echoing this. Would someone who has done the repair be willing to document the disassembly with photos? Personally I don't care about the soldering part, I know how to do that, but it would be great to not have to stumble around while figuring out which screws to remove, and in what order the covers come off.
