Haha. Pardon me if I think 135 dollars is unreasonable for a plastic part for a k01. I saw that already. My entire camera cost less than that!

Well, if anyone finds a more reasonably priced one, I need one as well, as mine is also lost. Anyone know someone with a 3D printer?

Not that this makes the price any more reasonable, but it's machined aluminum, not plastic. If it had been made of plastic, it could have been molded onto the shaft, and the whole problem avoided. I doubt you'll find one cheap. Perhaps a DIY with a small bottle cap or button?

For all intensiclve purposes it still functions, just looks ugly. 3d printing sounds great though! Hmmm. I wonder how we would go about scanning the original mode dial to create the file? Then it would be easy to upload to any number of sites that do printing and could get a big bunch of them printed out.

In this thread: > https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/138-pentax-k-01/215611-k-01-mode-dial-problem-6.html
someone was kind enough to post pictures & measurements, would that be enough for a 3D printer user?

When I saw the title, I thought one of the the K-1 function dials allowed you to select how you'd pay for it

Autodesk 123D Catch | Generate 3d model from photos

this smartphone app lets you create a 3d model by taking a bunch of photos! maybe someone could try this? then post the file and people could print it themselves from shapeways

Wow, looking at this and the other thread it looks like this is a surprisingly common problem. I'm glad mine still functions. It would be really cool if someone with a 3D printer would make a batch. Maybe PF could reach out to some group that has a 3D printer?
Yeah, buying genuine replacement parts costs an arm and a leg. Honestly, at that price, it almost makes more sense to buy a new K-01. Or a highly damaged, broken K-01 super cheap, and then steal its mode dial.

  1. This is an OEM aluminum replacement part.
  2. I see $30 with free shipping.

Yes, they must have recently lowered the price, it was $135 at first.

I ended up caving and bought one at the $30 price, as I didn't see any other options materializing. Now I have to figure out how to attach it, so it doesn't come off again.
