rubber flap over the card compartment door

One of the complaints about the K-01 was of the rubber flap over the memory card slot. Reviewers said it was flimsy, hard to put in place or would break off. Now that people have owned the camera for a while, has anyone had theirs come off?

Nope, still going strong in it's fourth year. It did take me a day or two to learn how to close it correctly.

Mine is still in place and working perfectly. I can see you could find it a bit flimsy if you're a journalist reviewing this camera and just open and close it once or twice during the review. But if you own this camera you figure out pretty quickly how to close it properly.

Mine is fine. You might want to search the forums for threads about this issue. I think it is not a common problem.
You just have to learn how to put the rubber flap back correctly. Its not just jammed in there, if you place it correctly, it will hold.
Especially today, with very high capacity cards, you don't really have to worry about opening the flap when you are "in action." Over the years, I opened mine many times, every time I downloaded photos or exchanged SD cards. Never had a problem, and the thing still works.

What is common is the mode dial coming off. Happened to mine fairly early.

The rubber flap is a bit, er, weird, but it does work just fine, and I see no hint that it might not survive as long as the rest of the cam body.

I have three and no problems yet. Like an earlier post it did take me a while to find just the right alignment and pressure to fit it but all good since then.
Mind you I would still prefer a "proper" door like most other bodies.

You have to be cleverer (and more sober) than the average internet reviewer to operate the door correctly. I also have multiple K-01s with no door failures in almost four years. On the other hand, the hard plastic door on my Canon P&S failed after a couple years of light use because the little plastic bumps that are supposed to hold it closed wore away.

The problem with a rubber flap is that it doesn't produce a 'click' feedback when closed like the other doors. It tends to throw off a lot of people who aren't used to it.
The flap position doesn't affect performance and functionality in any way. It's just OCD senses kicking in.

It is just a matter of opening/closing it completely without unnecessary pressure. That is, if it is anything like the K-20D, K-5, K-5IIS, or K-3II, which I have had. I have never had a K-01.

Well, its very different, because its not hard plastic, but just.. a rubber flap. But you are still right, it is a matter of doing it with the right amount of pressure, taking a good angle. Despite it being so different in material, it is not that different once you get the technique down

Yes -- it took me maybe two or three attempts to fully master the "technique" when I first got a K-01.

Of course, that was maybe more time spent on it than some of the reviewers may have spent on it before typing up their condemnations of the flap.

No problems with the rubber flap.

As noted before, it takes some practice. The rubber flap is one smart design feature out of the many smart design features with this camera. A hard plastic door would have cracked and broken.
