Ack! Pentax K-01. Lowest shutter count to fail ratio ever!!

8730 actuations and the shutter in the camera won't open. This for me is a record. I've owned about 40 digitals, including other Pentax's and the only
thing that was even close was an ancient Nikon D70 that began having CF card reading issues after 13 years and over 100K actuations! I emailed Ricoh

repairs just to get an idea of cost. Though I suspect getting a used body that works will be less expensive.

Very sorry to hear that

Just one of those things, but understandably frustrating. It never helps to be told you're in a tiny minority when experiencing problems... so I won't do that here

This can't be a bad/low battery thing can it?

Well It is by now an old peace of electronics, and you never know when what will fail.

Using a different freshly juiced up battery to see if things get different is a good idea.

If nothing works........Well then just bang it on a table to see if the shutter is just jammed and gets free with some force brought to it.

I had a similar experience after the body sat around for a while. Battery will become depleted after several months. After putting in a new battery, turn it on, nothing happens!!
If you just cycle on/off, same thing. However if I left the cam in the ON position, after some time (really maybe a dozen seconds) it powered up like normal, asking for the time/date. Works fine!
My theory is that the small internal date/time battery also drained and takes a bit to hold a charge again.
Try it, give it a chance to power up..

Last I looked, used bodies are fairly inexpensive. If the current body can't be resurrected, a used one is a nice choice. Just look around for a sharp deal.
Thanks,

One of my K-01's is closing in on 50,000 actuation's - I use it mainly for video, so it's taken a while.
Suprised to hear of the shutter failing.
I also have a second body that always requires the date & time entered after a battery change - the previous owner didn't use it for several months, so I've always figured the internal battery is stuffed.
Still turns on and makes great imagery.

My Bumblebee's shutter failed after nearly 6 years and 50k+ actuations. It's replacement exhibits the same behavior as your second body, but otherwise looks and works great. /shrug

The same situation. Now I’m trying to get to the shutter to see what happened to it, while I’m afraid to take it deeper. I can’t find a place to buy a new shutter or circuit to understand what should not be touched
