Thanks to those who recommended this camera; got one used

And it takes great images. This with a 40mm XS, in IR. Storm clearing on Mt Diablo, East SF Bay Area.

Good luck with it, the 35mm plastic fantastic also fits the camera great and doesn't break the bank!

Yeah, I've got that lens and it does work well.

I've also been using the 18-135mm 3.5/5.6, and that works very well. Doesn't seem to have the infrared hot spot that has been reported elsewhere at least on the K-01. The Pentax F 35-70mm 3.5 also produces good results.

As noted elsewhere, I just wish I could figure out a way to get a gel filter inside it behind the lens.

Not only is is a great camera, Oakland Rob - but this photo is seriously cool! and makes me want to play around with my own IR settings.
