Go and handle the Pentax entry level offerings and you'll get the same impression. What you've just done is what I call a fit and feel tour. The exact same thing I did when I chose my first Pentax, the K10d. That isn't a knock on those other cameras but when my hand cramped up while playing with the K100d (the new entry level of the day), it was all I needed to make my decision.

Have you handled the K-7? Small very solid, magnesium alloy body - hard not to walk out of the shop with it!

I suppose you're probably right Jeff. In some ways I guess I'm 'spoiled' now with my K20. Anything that doesn't have the same tough feel just will not do. lol

Edited to add: I realize there are those out there whose opinion may be the K20D is a big honkin' piece of poo. lol So just to reiterate, I'm not trying to insult anyone's choice. It's JMO. ;-D
That may be their opinion but we both know, they are wrong. 1wink

If this is the level of detail we get when you go to Target, please don't tell us when you go to the bathroom

Hrm. I actually kind of liked the K100 or k200d, whichever it was I handled in a shop when I got the chance. They didn't have anything else, but I liked it, for a little-ish camera.

When I got a chance to get my K20d, I figured that if they could make the entry-level feel that nice, I'd probably be pretty happy with the K20d. Turned out to be more true than I could have expected. A darn near perfect fit. I haven't tried the K-7, but I'd have been happy if they kept the body style another model or two, as well. It's just perfect for me to get a soft release out of it.

I got to handle a sometime-student's Canon XS, recently: it wasn't too terrible in shape, but definitely had a pretty cheap feel.

The local Wal-mart had a little Olympus like E-410: that felt like some quality, though the control layout made it hard to get at so much. Really odd, that.

Your target had the D300? The ones that I have been to only have the entry level cameras.

Just a bad joke. No worries. I just never read a detailed camera review from Target...

Oh. lol Well I was there buying some birthday stuff and couldn't help but linger at the camera counter. That's the only reason I brought it up. ;-)

So curiously, why is Nikon so 'far' behind Canon when it comes to MP offered on the entry to mid-level cameras?
