biggest Windows automatic update ever

Today I had to move my old desktop because my wife is painting the room that it is in but I decided to check my email etc before moving it and I am now stuck in the longest Windows update in history. The update has now taken longer than to install XP when I built this PC (Core 2 Duo) in Aug 2006 and it still on #15 of 19 updates. WTF !

Mine had 19 updates this morning. Took a little less than 10mins at most.

Was recently working on my mom's unused-for-at-least-a-year machine. Had 43 Windows updates, 1 Adobe Reader update, and I passed on the Open Office upgrade... On dial-up, too...

I recently jumped on the Acer Netbooks that Newegg was selling for $199. Nice little computer but for the first 2 days it did nothing but download Windows updates. I was very close to just wiping the drive and installing Ubuntu.

Yes, dail up still exists. I most rural areas, it is the only affordable option.

My windows updates are done by me. Autoupdates can cause loads of problems and installing 19 can crash your OS. Basic computer instructions includes, not downloading and installing all the updates at one time. Best to download a few at a time, install those few first, then continue.

I think the question should be: "They still charge for dial-up"?
