"Beautiful is back."

Then why is the car so ugly?

That's encouraging to see - probably a local/regional marketing effort. Still it's something, and other brands have demonstrated that you can create strong brand awareness even if you don't have TV-budgets. Mini's introduction and marketing in the US has been excellent, with news-worthy stunts, interesting outdoor, and creative use of digital channels. Pentax would do well to look outside the photo industry for insight and inspiration.

Have to agree with Lithos... Why'd they have to put it on such an ugly "car" (the dang thing is smaller than my motorcycle for cripes sake). I guess they are going for the "small and trendy" tie-in... The Optio I-10 is a cute little camera.

I'm all for almost any advertising that Pentax does though so I should really shut up. I will say this though...

"Hey Pentax... send me the K-series skins and I will gladly drive around with them all over my F150!"

Probably because of the similarities between the car and the camera. The both run off 3.7 volt batteries...

I'm also wondering a why a French advertisement is in English. For God's sakes, France insists every single country's name at the UN is subtitled en Francais - even when it's practically redundant to do so ("CHINA - CHINE") why they're letting some punk Japanese company get away with it has got me beaten.

They're drawing parallels between compact camera and compact car. I don't think Smart's are ugly so I guess it's in the eye of the beholder.

I like the approach on optio I-10. The car is ugly , but as a mobile ad it is doing fine

would be better if they have "sponsored" pros using their gear in high profile events.

But then Pentax does what Pentax wants. I am pretty sure the people who are paid possibly obscene amounts of money know what they are doing.
