That was pretty freakin' awesome. No surprise he's a New Yawker, from the outer Boroughs, even.

I am assuming the purpose of this post in an endorsement of the honorable Senators behavior on the floor?

You'd be foolish to assume anything.

He makes a solid point, but I'm not sure I endorse his behavior, however entertaining it might be. He should really be addressing his criticisms at his fellow Democrats who also opposed the measure, though I get the feeling he was prompted to speak by certain tactics being used by a certain Republican colleague.

well I just had to say that because you posted it without any sort of clarification was all as the the meaning of the post. He is a rather vocal critic of all things Republican if you do a google search on him so I seriously doubt you would see an attack agasint his own party from him.

I thought it was refreshing..........
Just a blog but interesting...

How soon we forget.

Republicans love to wave the flag, and they love to talk about 9/11. It gave them reason to curtail our civil liberties. It gave them reason to start a war. It gives them reason to cry out against a mosque and cultural center that's going up near Ground Zero (read: incite anti-Muslim fervor). They even got voted into office by some of 9/11's heroes and their families.
And yesterday, they showed how much they really care about them.
The GOP defeated a bill that would have provided long-term health benefits to those sickened by toxins resulting from the 9/11 attacks.....................
Shame on you, Republicans, for using these people when you need them. Shame on you for turning your backs on them now.
Speaking of blogs.......................

These gave me a chance to look into the "fake memo" thing that I missed..................
QuoteQuote:
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Today, on the House floor, my wonderful Representative and embarrassment to the state, Scott Garrett, read from a “memo” that was already discredited as fake earlier in the day. Rep. Anthony Weiner completely shredded Garrett’s willingness to talk about fake memos as opposed to things like reducing the deficit or expanding health care or, as Weiner said so well – “we’re here to solve the problems of the American people, not quote from fake memos”.

Although not a Democrat and not a fan of downstate politicians, Rep Weiner is right on with this one.

well lets not applaud him all the way if he hadn't called for a supermajority vote in order to pervent any debate on the bill it would have passed. Before you say it was only the Republicans that voted against it there were 4 nays and 8 abstainee votes from Democrats ( you know thats the way to vote no without voting no)

Not that simple.........
House GOP leaders: 9/11 first responders aid bill 'a massive new entitlement program' - On Congress - POLITICO.com
Like he said, they would have voted no anyways....... Repub smoke and mirrors.
Pay close attention to the "comments".
Since I must "take sides" here, I thought this was intresting:
QuoteQuote:
Dem's dont understand we need to kill terrorist not pay out fees every time they attack us. I wonder if dems want terrorist to attack us so they can push more socialist agenda.
QuoteQuote:
To pay the bill's estimated $7.4 billion cost over 10 years, the legislation would have prevented foreign multinational corporations incorporated in tax haven countries from avoiding tax on income earned in the U.S.

Bill supporters said that would close a tax loophole; Republicans branded it a corporate tax increase.

QuoteQuote:
Heading into the vote, Democrats acknowledged it would be difficult to gather enough support to pass the bill under special rules requiring a two-thirds majority.

But Democrats were concerned that a simple majority vote would allow Republicans to propose a controversial amendment that seeks to deny 9/11 health benefits to illegal immigrants. That amendment threatened to fracture Democratic support for the original bill into two camps: moderates who might feel political pressure to deprive illegal immigrants of such benefits and liberals who flatly oppose the Republican amendment.

Still, many supporters of the legislation outside of Congress expressed bitter disappointment that House leaders did not allow a simple majority vote on the bill. In a statement afterward, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg expressed outrage over the outcome and criticized both parties.

“It was wrong for the overwhelming majority of Republicans to vote against the bill,” he said, “and it was wrong for Democrats to bring the bill to the floor under rules that made passage so much more difficult.”

QuoteQuote:
It was frustrating to hear Republicans say these people didn’t deserve more help because, as one put it, “people get killed all the time.” Others called it another big entitlement program. Some said it was a giveaway to New York, or complained that the bill would have been paid for by closing a tax loophole. We responded to each of these arguments over the summer in the hours of hearings and markups of the bill. And the answers are pretty simple.

The truth is that this is a limited program, with a cap, because it is restricted to 9/11 responders and others directly affected by the toxic substances. As we all remember, the victims of ground zero dust came from all over the nation — they weren’t just New Yorkers. And, frankly, I don’t see what’s wrong with trying to close a loophole that lets foreign multinational corporations avoid paying taxes on income they have earned in the United States.

There were also Republican objections that we put the bill on the “suspension calendar,” which is generally used for noncontroversial legislation, as this measure should have been. This move meant that the bill required a two-thirds favorable vote for approval rather than a simple majority, but it also kept the bill from getting bogged down in debate and stuck with poison-pill amendments.

Still, what upset me most last week were comments voiced by Republicans who claimed to be supporters of the bill, yet who used their time on the House floor not to persuade skeptical Republican colleagues to vote yes but to excoriate Democrats for using the suspension calendar.
ect........
