Even ex-politicians facing hard times.

“Leave him alone,” a sister-in-law said. “Enough is enough.”

It’s been a staggering four years for Amorello, who once moved in the state’s most elite Republican circles.

The Grafton native quit his $223,000 state job in 2006, after a woman was killed inside a Big Dig tunnel when 12 tons of concrete ceiling panels fell on her.

Amorello resigned, but not before redoing his department’s sick leave pay policy, a move that promised to net him $75,000 in cash for sick time he had accrued but never used. The state ethics department fined him $2,000 for the move.

again its a non issue. How many people in Massachusettes got arrested for DUI last weekend ? or even across the country? should this even be elevated to the level of "news worthy"? Were he a nobody this wouldn't get a second anywhere but because he was an expolitician that was involved in that fiasco known as the big dig he is suddenly worth being reported on? please.

huh

A drunken politician in Massachusetts. I'm shocked. Like a lot of other drunks, I'm sure he has created his own problems.

Most drunks can't vote themselves a $75,000 raise before getting canned, and only be fined $2000. As to the 'big dig" I had no opinion since I don't know the history......

...ah but this one's a Republican, so there are extenuating circumstances. The outrage if he were a Democrat would be huge, a total example of corrupt liberal-socialist politics.

Which makes an interesting point about underlying assumptions: Democrats are held to a higher moral standard because they stand for such. Republicans are expected to be corrupt once in office, thus the excuse that 'everyone does it' and that it's a non-story.

State Rep. George Petersen, a Republican who grew up with Amorello in Grafton, said, “I think it’s a tragedy with anyone who falls this far. I know he’s been looking for employment and it’s not been going very well.”

Please need we just remind you of I dont even know which Kennedy it was that was arrested for DUI a short time back and the story dissappeared after he announced he had a drinkning problem and all was forgiven.

Where are you getting the idea that I think that its a non story because he is a Republican I think its a non-story because a DUI story for any citizen barely makes the local newspaper let alone the national news, the only reason this one did is because he is an ex-politician. So is it that we hold all politicians to a higher standard as you say or is it that we just get joy out of watching people crash and burn for the publics amusement?

No but every politician can thankfully thats the wonderful thing when you are allowed to set your OWN pay. You get to decide that you deserve that 5% or that 75,000 or whatever you want you simply have to pass the bill. No wonder everyone wants to go into politics once your in you are set for life.

Fortunately common sense prevailed for once......

If any of those Dems were in my state they'd get my no vote (and a memo...... )
