This guy must get around.

I realized that I saw almost this same ad a couple weeks ago with slightly different wording (Columbia, SC). Very interesting....

I would bet that CL searches through all of their ads looking for listings with the same wording in different cities, hence the variations.

Found another this morning too. This one almost same wording but different city, Space Coast, for $170. I do not know if there is any way to contact craigs list people to warn them of these people and have them remove the ads. But I think something should be done. I'll check later and see if I can contact the owners of craigs list.

I just flagged it as "Spam/Overpost". Maybe if several people did that it would alert CL that something is suspicious.

Smells fishy.
Unless personally going up to check the full functionality of the camera I wouldn't even consider it.

bigdog, I went back in that list for my area and flagged the two I found as "spam/overpost" also.

I've read through some info on who and how to contact someone about these ads. Craigs list has a scam note:

"If you suspect that an item posted for sale on craigslist may be part of a scam, please email the details to "abuse@craigslist.org". Be sure to include the URL (or 10-digit post ID number) in your message."

Yeah, this ad was also posted in my area. I knew the price was ridiculous, so I didn't bite.

I emailed one, but have not gotten anything back from them. Of course, I didn't use my real email, but my one of my throw away ones.

I wouldn't count on hearing anything back regardless of the email address. Don't be surprised if that email addy gets added to about 1000 spam mailing lists though.

Sounds to me like a "top notch" scam.

That's why I didn't give my real email, but a throw away one. I check that one once a month and delete all the emails.

right, Jason, I think we have all agreed that this is what these ads are about.

I have not emailed craigs list yet, but will in the morning.

Got a reply, and of course the camera is already sold. Just spam in the content of the emaill, but we knew that didn't we?

Gist of the email was to advertise huge camera rebates dot com.

If any of you want to see the email I can send it to you via PM.
