You are correct, the number is probably much higher. Every town in the U.S. has a Pop Warner, Junior High, and High School football team making the number of player virtually too-numerous-to-count. Few have motorcycle racing teams. I like how you ignored the posted link and article. You would see where I was going with this. Some one should have assessed the situations given the age group of the participants. I have seen football games delayed, postponed or rescheduled due to lightening. Same with baseball. What was the motivating factor to run the races in the reported conditions?
Why do kids have football practice in the heat and die ?

There are rules in place that are intended to minimize that. If those rules are broken, it can have serious consequences. If a player gets hurt or dies, charges can and have been filed.

Why did the Indy officials allow racing in those conditions? They may set the sport back.

There was no problem.

So these guys are lying? Besides, the 24 year old guy winning a race doesn't mean conditions were suitable for the 12 & 13 year old kids going over 100 mph.

"Difficult" doesn't mean unsafe. Most of these riders will have ridden in more difficult conditions. If conditions are truly unsafe by the sport's standards (water/oil on track, extreme heat, extreme cold, track surface degrading), races are called off.

Anyway, the kid fell off on the formation lap, at low speed, and it wasn't the fall from the bike that hurt him. This wasn't a result of track conditions, just a crazy accident.

Interesting to hear you arguing for more government regulation, Blue.

Show me where I wrote that. The track officials should have been more on top of conditions. If you want to debate government regulation, take it to the other place.

Fair enough.

Anyway, track conditions were well within the safe zone with regard to this sport, and they had little to do with this accident as I understand it.

I've seen some rants and blogs online all morning questioning whether motorsports should be allowed for someone this kids age. While this is a tragic crash, it is rare. Thousands of kids participate in motorcycle racing worldwide, both on dirt and track with probably no more injuries than other sports. This is the first fatality this organization has had in it's years of operation. Hundreds die every year in normal, everyday recreational bicycle riding.

The Indy track had a crazy amount of crashes.. must have been coincidence. Safe, i'm not sure, but it certainly didn't look friendly.. and i'm not talking about the corners. Looking at how the bikes were behaving, the surface looked like shit.
