Jon Stewart Announces DC 'Rally to Restore Sanity' | PopEater.com

In contrast with Glenn Beck's recent religious-y rally on Washington, where signs were openly discouraged, the Comedy Central funnyman urges marchers to go to town. He suggested a couple ideas, including "I Disagree With You, But I'm Pretty Sure You're Not Hitler," and "Take It Down a Notch, America."

The rally, which he also dubbed the 'Million Moderate March,' will lean heavy on comedy, of course. Stewart's "rival," Stephen Colbert, bum-rushed the show to announce that he too would hold his own rally nearby for "all freedom-loving patriots" to challenge the "dark, optimistic forces" of Stewart and the 'Daily Show.'

He later said on the 'Colbert Report' that in order to "fight Jon Stewart's creeping reasonableness" and "restore truthiness" he will lead the 'March to Keep Fear Alive' in the same exact spot on the same day as his Comedy Central colleague.

In its statement, Comedy Central promised a face-off between Stewart and Colbert that will be "bigger than Nixon/Kennedy, Ali/Foreman, Aniston/Jolie, 50/Nas, Joe/the Volcano, Alien/Predator, Bunny/Fudd and Ecks/Sever combined."

Because we're looking for those people. We're looking for the people who think shouting is annoying, counterproductive, and terrible for your throat; who feel that the loudest voices shouldn't be the only ones that get heard; and who believe that the only time it's appropriate to draw a Hitler mustache on someone is when that person is actually Hitler. I know it sounds amazing but I actually maybe possibly agree with John Stewart that America has become so marginaized that all we do is shout at one another instead of listening heck it happens here afterall. So I agree in principle as long as the rally is an equal oppurtunity attacker on both parties not just a one sided hatchet job on the Republicans and the conservatives.

Clinton lamented that "a distinguished former governor of Delaware was beaten tonight by the so-called tea party candidate" because enough primary voters had accepted a "new narrative" promoted by the extreme right. The Republican Party had changed, said Clinton, during the course of his own lifetime. "It’s a very different Republican Party from the one I grew up with," he said, a change that began "when they foresaked their founder, Abraham Lincoln" to chase segregationist voters in the South. Republican traditions favored private initiative and smaller government, but if the nation needed federal action, the Republicans supported it. He recited a litany of landmark Republican programs, from Lincoln’s creation of the land-grant college system to Theodore Roosevelt’s anti-trust reforms to Eisenhower’s construction of the Interstate Highway System.

"For the past 30 years they’ve been telling us that government is the problem and the destruction of government is the solution," said Clinton, "and now I think they’ve gotten to the point where they actually believe it ... It’s very important to our country that we don’t go that way. You can’t be impervious to evidence or you’ll get into trouble."

The next day will be even more insane as it's the Marine Corps Marathon. And since it's on halloween I imagine even more runners than usual will be in costumes.
