On a roll.. immigration

washingtonpost.com
QuoteQuote:
Former Secretary of State Colin Powell says illegal immigrants do essential work in the U.S. and he has firsthand knowledge of that - because they fix his house.

Powell, a moderate Republican, urged his party Sunday to support immigration generally because it is "what's keeping this country's lifeblood moving forward."

In an interview with NBC's "Meet the Press," he said a path to legal status should be offered to illegal immigrants because they "are doing things we need done in this country."
An honest republican ... yes hell has frozen over............. (just a tad of sarcasm)

Tell RINO Powell that there is a path to citizenship. The US processes over 1,000,000 a year and has for years and years. The line starts around the corner.

Pretty funny that his Obama endorsement has now turned stone cold.

Follow the wind Powell

"RINO" is such a worrying term. Homogenization above all else!

We will get an answer soon.

House Republicans to unveil campaign blueprint this week - CNN.com

QuoteQuote:
A House GOP strategist highly involved in getting Republicans elected told CNN it was important to abide by the so-called "80-20 rule," meaning "the election is 80 percent about Democrats and 20 percent about us."

"This election needs to remain a referendum on [President] Obama, [House Speaker] Pelosi and the Democrats, but voters need to be aware that Republicans are a viable alternative and we are ready to govern," the GOP strategist said.

The senior GOP leadership aide said that about two-thirds of the items in the plan are actual legislative proposals. Other ideas include actions that Republicans believe the House should take, but don't require a vote. For example, one item would insist that all House members get 72 hours to read bills before floor votes.

Proposals similar to House Minority Leader John Boehner's plan to freeze all tax rates at current levels for two years and cut spending back to 2008 levels will be included, the sources said.

Boehner, R-Ohio, and other GOP leaders are likely to use the limited procedural options they have as the minority party to try to force House floor votes this week on some of the proposals.

Dumping this here: Border Governors Conference Under Way, Minus Most Governors - NYTimes.com

QuoteQuote:
SANTA FE, N.M. — There was plenty of star power present at the kickoff reception for the U.S.-Mexico border governors’ conference on Sunday night. Over there, Shirley MacLaine, the actress. And there, Sam Donaldson, the newsman. All around, politicians from Mexico.

But it was those who did not show up to sip margaritas at Gov. Bill Richardson’s hilltop home who were the subject of the most attention.

Gov. Jan Brewer of Arizona and Gov. Rick Perry of Texas stayed away from the session, which Mr. Richardson organized after six Mexican governors, in protest of Arizona’s immigration crackdown, refused to attend a summit that Ms. Brewer had been planning in Phoenix.

Then, at the last minute, there was another no show. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger of California, a co-chairman of the rogue session in Santa Fe, sent word that budget woes in Sacramento would prevent him from attending. He sent his lieutenant governor, Abel Maldonado, instead.

So Governor Brewer is fighting back. She’s sponsored a new video, on the Web site SecuretheBorderAZ.org that skewers prominent Obama Cabinet members like Attorney General Eric Holder and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, for their admissions in Congressional hearings that they hadn’t read the bill. And it uses a green puppet (kind of a faux Kermit, though not) to urge a better reading of the bill in a sing-a-long style.

BTW: It really isn't hard to see the "errors" in the bill......

Powell and Palin should run together in 2012. They both have so much experience doing policy from their house and porch.

Much like Obama from downtown Chicago.

I do know Obama can see November well from his front porch.

Sometimes you seem to be the embodiment of this philosophy........

Obama had risen to a rarified stratosphere of fame and impact, he says, the kind achieved by few – a human brand on the level of a Martin Luther King or Muhammad Ali. But that turned around quickly. “When Obama had his hand on the Lincoln Bible at inauguration, he never could have believed if we would have told him Glenn Beck's brand would be more important than his two years later.”

All this is temporary blather. The last two presidents we might consider successful were Reagan and Clinton. Both had very rocky times during their presidencies. And Bush Jr was sinking like a rock till his resurrection via 9/11.

The thing is, when a president actually does something they automatically get a lot of opposition and criticism, and there's money to be made from this.

This November may or may not turn out the way the pundits currently think.

HELL froze over......

Murdoch Says Immigration Overhaul Would Help Economy - Bloomberg
QuoteQuote:
Representative Maxine Waters, a California Democrat, questioned how Murdoch could support a pathway to legal status for undocumented immigrants while his company’s Fox News Channel highlights the views of commentators who she said advocate a get-tough approach to illegal immigrants.

“I don’t see you promoting in any way with all the power you have to do that,” Waters said.

Murdoch said “we do” reflect his personal views, including in the Wall Street Journal, which his company also owns.
