Decent article, if a bit obvious. Doesn't really address the upgrade issue though, at least not as I scan it.
My basic rule is: If I feel a need to upgrade a product, I've probably got the wrong product. (That's a major reason I bought a Pentax K20D and not some Canikony gear -- all the user reviews with expressed desires to upgrade soonest.) Maybe it was even the wrong product when I bought it. Bother.
My basic procedure is: Look at what I've got. Ask, "What do I want to do that I can't do with what I have?" Look at what's available that answers that question. Look at the available budget. Plot out price-performance curves of the contenders. Buy carefully. Or just splurge -- hey, it's only MONEY, eh? Right.
Look more closely at that question. It's, "What do I *want*, that what I have won't do?" And not, "Gzz, what fun stuff *could* I do with this nifty new gadget?" That's utility vs fantasy. Fantasy grabs ya, but utility is what ya live with.
