I support the firefighters in this case. The fire was out of the firefighters jurisdiction and that particular town agreed to pay a $75 fee to have firefighters come out to their town in case there is a fire (they are asking firefighters to go above and beyond their duties). This gentleman did not "forget" to pay the fee, he REFUSED to pay the fee. If I refuse to pay my doctor bill, do I have the right to come back and demand he perform surgery on me?
Even if the firefighters fought the fire and in doing so damaged the man's house (obviously damage that was not due to the fire) the man can sue the fire department (this is not my hypothesis, it is a fact that residents can and have sued fire fighters for what they called unnecessary damage due to an attempted suppression of a fire). Basically the man wanted free services (no taxes but all the public services that go with taxes).
