I'm just a photo hobbyist and I post a lot on facebook. All my photos are really hot thanks to my great pentax lenses, and my friends dig them.

I started my facebook fan page yesterday, and today I got a message from a friend to work a paying gig shooting a benefit party. It's my first actual 'professional' photography event and I'm pretty stoked.

Thanks to pentax, and thanks to facebook for helping me promote my artwork.

I also learned that it's REALLY IMPORTANT to watermark my pics because people steal them on facebook and you don't get any credit.

That's the problem with modern media. Only the owners earn money off of it. However, one has to adapt.

Congrats to your first paid job! I've only managed to get two or three and that consisted mostly of fine dining while I have to run around and shoot it. You have much nicer friends =P

So speak up about it. If they refuse to take them down, contact facebook with a Notice Of Infringement. Facebook will remove them for you.

I dont have any problem whatsoever with friends or acquaintances re-posting my photographs, being that they are just that, friends and acquaintances, and on something as trivial as a social networking site. I'd pick your battles before making a fuss and risking losing some friends over that.

Yeah, i too have had photos of mine stolen off facebook by family and friends, :ugh: thats why i always do watermarks.

I only post photos I want to share with friends and family on Facebook. I assume they are going to be passed around.

If you want them taken down, in the future, put a copyright notice in the corner. I know they are easily cropped, but as long as you have the original, you can prove it's yours. I sell online and copyright all my shots of my creations. There is a lot of discussion about this in the handmade online communities and this is the best solution I have found so far. A necklace shot of mine was used by another person on a site. I contacted the site and because I had the copyrighted original, they made the person remove what they had posted.

Or just put a watermark on the bottom so you get exposure from them reposting. That's what I do, then again most people I know wouldn't go to the trouble to crop out my name and take my credit...
