Jon Stewert and Steven Colberts Rally?

Anyone going? I think that they are some of the most politically sound individuals even if Jon Stewert does much of it with humor and Steven Cobert uses a excentric character to deliver his message.

They both do more humanitarian efforts then most (with all their campaigns for Non-Profit organizations that actually get used properly (instead of "Goodwill, Red Cross, etc").

The also bash both sides, of course they tend to think worse about the "average extreme" republican, but they thing that the "average democrate is a pussy" and do not really support one or the other in nearly as bais in fashion as MSNBC or Fox News.

I am a independant, and I feel that the majority of the country is too (even if they registered one way or another). The reason most dont think so is because unfortunatly the independants are the quiets group. They don't hold rallies (normally), tea parties, protests or shout and throw things at speeches... they dont get put on the news because they are not so interesting. BUT THE SANE INDEPENDANTS ARE SOME OF THE MOST LEVEL HEADED (along with the some moderates from each side)]

In the spirit of this section I suggest all people come to a reasonable discussion and if they can go to the rally if not to support or protest but rather to have an intellectial discussion and participate proactively into bringing REAL solutions back to government.

If I was in the US I would surely go.

/end rant

Yes, I am going... Not to support either side or to take part, but as a photojournalist. Fired up politicos (on both sides) are some of the funnest photo subjects goin.

he "Daily Show" and "The Colbert Report" routinely blast Republicans, Democrats and the media for hyperpartisan attacks and outrageous and inflammatory innuendo.

"Republicans love America. They just seem to hate about 50 percent of the people who live in it," Stewart said on CNN's "Larry King Live" last week. "Democrats, for their thing, it's always: They love this country, they just somehow wish it were a different country. With Democrats, it's like, 'America is the greatest country in the world. [But] have you seen Finland's health care system?'"
Stewart began the week in Washington, hosting his show from a downtown studio. He interviewed President Obama on Wednesday, grilling him on the upcoming election and why Democrats seem to be disenchanted with the administration.
Colbert recently blasted Sean Bielat, the Republican running against Democratic Rep. Barney Frank, and Ken Buck, the Republican running in Colorado's Senate race, for their views on gays and lesbians. Buck linked being gay to alcoholism while Bielat said that gays and lesbians shouldn't serve in the military, just as short people cannot.
In his typical deadpan shtick, Colbert said, "Sean Bielat and Ken Buck can't help being politically opportunistic election year gay-baiters. They were born that way."
Humor aside, Stewart said the rally is for people who are "tired of their reflection in the media as being a divided country and a country that's ideological and conflicted and fighting, this is for those people."
I guess I'll be there in spirit........

From what I've heard and seen, it seems more like a performance with moderates coming to laugh than a true political rally.

What equipment do you take to these sorts of things?

Also, I've never park & rode before.. what's the deal with parking?

The Metro lots are usually free on the weekends so just park and ride. Best if you have a Metro Pass but if you buy a paper pass make sure you get enough credit to get in AND out of town.

Equipment will be simple... K10D, K20D, DA*16-50, DA*60-250 & the Bigma (for those long "can't get anywhere near the stage" shots).

Big thing to look for are the interactions with any "counter demonstrators" around the fringes. This is where the drama is. I hear the DC's Eleanor Holmes Norton (their non voting congress critter) is hoping to crash the rally.

I'll probably going to be rolling in around 11ish. I'll probably just have my GX10 and 70mm with me. I don't really want to carry around anything heavy.

Everybody have safe travels!

Heehee. It's on Webcast now, and it's hyoooge.

---------- Post added 10-30-10 at 01:55 PM ----------

And, we may actually need some citizen journalist coverage: Colbert just gave the 'Medal Of Fear' to all the major news outlets that wouldn't let their employees attend for fear coverage of something this big would make them seem 'liberal,' ...ABC, CBS, the AP, the New York Times, and NPR among others...

Since they couldn't be there, he presented the medal to someone with more courage... A seven year old girl!

Why let the images get in the way of all the punditry and pooh-poohing, eh?

Heheh.

On tv it looked like a much larger crowd than Glenn Beck's rally IMHO.
