It's Time for the Big Event............

It's the time of year again that we all eagerly await. No, not Halloween, or the Fall colors, not Thanksgiving, or the first snow fall. I'm talking about the really big event!
It's time for the The Worldwide Squirrel Shooters Association Fall Frenzy.

Normal rats in your part of the world don't have tails?

The farmers' wives must be moving up in the world.

Yeah, I dunno, Jim. The link in the first post still works. I wonder if Flickr's having trouble.

(Just coming in from trying to catch my little friends. They were pretty scarce all summer, but there's a roving band of little, presumably young ones, who seem to make laps of the neighborhood. I can barely lift a camera at the very moment, but I'll be watching for em. And thinking that one of these days I'll have to break down and get a decent longer lens. The way this place is laid out, they're usually either right on top of you or you probably need at least a 300. It's best to sit out and wait for them to come to you, but it's kind of too chilly for much of that today. )

The links go to flickr but if he changed the names of the albums, the links are essentially dead.

Still hanging around waiting....

Heehee. Did see that one this morning.

Didn't get anything good today: they didn't come very close. If there's actually a pattern to their routine, maybe I'll get some shots tomorrow.. (I cheated a little and left out some birdseed for em in some good spots. Hopefully, they'll pose for me. )

Looking forward to seeing what you get.. I'm not into feeding the critters around here. They tend to grow to expect it. The guy behind me has bird feeders and with all the wires going across over the garage roof well, let's just say that asphalt shingles and bird crap don't mix very well. The lines use to get so heavy with birds, I thought the wires would snap under the weight.

Heehee. I suppose, now that you mention it, the birdies we get here are generally quite well-behaved in those ways (Lots of cardinals, chickadees, titmouses, a few morning doves and thrashers. Sometimes little finches and wrens.) And we seem to be on some migration routes. Not a lot of starlings and sparrows mobbing the place and pooping all over, (Now that you mention it, I very rarely see any of such here,) even if there can be quite a little crowd when I'm out under the carport doing whatever.

I like the company, and I like squirrels, (There's little danger of them getting out of hand, between the roads and birds of prey) I don't think they raid my birdfooder much, either: I think they have to take a flying jump at it to knock some seed down, and some of it falls just from bird traffic, anyway.

They are, however, not around so far today. I may have to go looking for em.
