Originally posted by newarts I do not understand the popularity of Facebook. I have tried, and look at my page daily at least. It is boring.
My Facebook news page has little meaningful info on it; what's there is mostly out-of-context comments by "Friends" about people I don't know. Mostly, I have no idea of what these comments about people I don't know mean.
This is on one column down the center of the page, so typically only 4-5 main entries with 2 very brief comments each are shown; this is insufficient space for the development of any logical theme or discussion. Mostly the page is white space.
I guess communication between people has degenerated to one or two sentence cute, context free, blurbs.
Unfortunately, life is more complex than can be expressed in 140 character broadcasts.
So why the popularity?

Disclaimer: I am an old man.
You are talking about twitter not facebook.
I still don't understand the point of twitter. The feed comes in so fast that it does not make sense.
Facebook on the other hand is useful. I use it to promote and show off my work and sometimes get some paid work for it. Also it is a great way to keep in touch with friends from long distance or old high school friends. Although I use FB and check it everyday, I am not one of those people(aka my wife) who is on it every minute they get a chance to check to see what there friends are doing.
