When was the last time you heard "That's a Pentax? Thought they went out of business"

It was only months ago this past summer that I heard that last. I lost count how many times I've heard it since I entered the Pentax owner's community in the Summer of '07. How 'bout you?

2010 shall forever be known as the year everyone learned Pentax did not go out, and is not going out of business!

Vive la Pentax!

Never....................

Pentax will never go...................................
Unless the Japanese Islands drop into the Ocean!

Who's been telling lies?..........most likely a disgruntled "Canon" user!

That's surprising. Yes, it's obviously Canikon owners and camera salesman doing the saying. No it's obviously not happening; unless Hoya woefully mis-manages their resources. But that's not the point I'm raising. Even a pro photographer I've become friendly with who works with my wife, where he himself owns a Pentax 645 and a 6x7, lenses for them, and fridge full of film for them, said it to me when I brought my camera to one of his shoots. ...talk of going out of business he of course heard in a camera store. I'm curious; how long have you been in the Pentax camp? edit: oh, based on your sig, I gather quite some time. Surprising noone's ever said that to you, give how much I've heard it.

It was upon my 1st renewal for me; but I renewed for 2 years (or was it 3?). Wait, now I'm not sure if I renewed once or twice. I know I'm paid up to 11/11/11 , so maybe it was upon two renewals.

If you renew for two years and pay a bit extra, you get the 'loyal' tag. You also get increased storage and perhaps a few other things. I can't remember the details. It was worth it for me because I think I get a lot out of this site.

We hear it here on the forum on a frequent basis, usually from newbies who are attracted by the products but are questioning Pentax's longevity...

almost as often as I hear that the FA limited lenses are going out of production. Even though that that statement has been thoroughly debunked.

In a buyers review for a Pentax K20D a couple of years ago at Newegg, I read a comment that said "pretty good camera for a new company". I really had to laugh but quickly the realization set in that Pentax is relatively unknown to the younger generation unless they had parents or another relative who owned one. I haven't seen a Pentax ad in a long time other than at some internet sites. 30 years ago, Pentax was one of the most popular SLR's out there.

I've got it from many a camera store lackey.

It's mostly due Pentax's piss-poor marketing.

The last time I heard it was about a 1 1/2 to 2 years ago when I stopped by a local camera store to see if they had any used Pentax lenses. Today? Pentax is still going, but that camera store has folded.

I don't hear it often, i do hear Pentax? who are they form kids (and I live in a City where we have a number of big stores selling them and a University that offers a film stream and a digital stream for the photography arts degrees)
Almost always I here the never heard of them from kids, and the I thought they went out of business from older canikon owners
In camera stores I more frequently hear they are in financial trouble/beingsold/we're dropping them as they don't sell....then of course the k5 comes out and they can't even keep a demo on the shelf they sold so many)

And that's one of the reasons why they moved the production to another country So at least they can keep producing

This year I got this comment twice while shooting for assignment:
"Pentax? Is that some really pro brand? I've only got a Canon"
