Well! I posted a thread on the "Wanted Items" for a Pentax 12-24mm and eventually got an offer, which looked very suspecious.

- The person had no track record, just 3 posts on that same day.
- Provided a link to the craiglist posting for the lens that was made after the wanted thread and this link was removed by the author as soon as I replied suggesting to send the lens first and I'll pay later
- asking price was ONLY $400 including shipping
- provided a phone number to call to make it look genuine BUT You can get pre-paid phones for next to nothing.

I am just posting to see whether others have had similar experiences and just as FIY.

On the face of it, nothing sets off a flashing "Oh yeah, definitely a scam!" alert but it would have been out of my comfort zone, too.

What about paying with Paypal? Wouldn't that protect you? If he doesn't want to accept Paypal, the alarms would definitely be ringing...
