And his mother drowned with him so he would not drown alone!

What would you rather they have done? Would it have been less of a tragedy if more people drowned?

I would rather they had done like the truck driver and made at least some effort to help the people rather than stand there and gawk. I can't understand what was lacking in my previous post that this needed to be spelled out.

Why is there a presumption that more people would have drowned had the gawking bystanders attempted to render some sort of assistance? Especially in the face of the very clear fact that one fewer drowned thanks to the efforts of the one person who couldn't bear to stand by and gawk while others were in mortal peril.

Mike, unfortunately not all have such instinct to even attempt to save a drowning victim, neither will everyone be confident they can withstand a forceful torrent of flood water. Have you seen the power of the floodwater that swept through Toowoomba on the videos? Perhaps then you may appreciate why most bystanders could not have done very much at all in the circumstances.

Suggestions would've been handy, since you're confident you can perfectly assess the situation from news article enough to tell others what they did was not the right thing to do.

Hey Laddies, lets not argue. Just remember that poor little tyke and his mom. From how the father expresses himself, it appears they were rather simple folk. God bless them all. It is so very much a tragedy. Hope everyone can cope.

I've just watched an interview with the guy who rescued the younger boy, it was probably the most heartbreaking thing I've ever watched on TV.
