NYIP question...opinions wanted!!!

Hello everyone/anyone!

I'm not sure if this is the right area to post this thread, but what the heck...here goes nothing!!!
I've been considering ordering the NYIP course. Has anyone done this course? Did it meet your expectations?
I'm a bit curious and hesitant about an online course in photography. Any opinions would be appreciated.
The price seems to be reasonable as well? But is it really worth it?
Maybe this subject has been flogged to death in another area???

Thanx in advance!
Darren.

Just my opinion but I really can't see how an on-line course can help you out any more than getting some C&C on any photography forum.
These experts if you want to call them that are only stating their opinion, and on a forum you'll have more than just 1 person's ideas of what's right.

There's really no right or wrong answer in this field, it's all based on personal opinion.

The book Understanding Exposure will help you out more than most courses if your looking for help with the exposure, although it's something that you can teach yourself

I've been taking pictures for many years, but it seems like they lack that "SNAP" and the "WOW" factor...I've gotten compliments on some of my shots, but still looking for that sharpness and perfect lighting. I only thought the course might help me find that. I'll look for the book you mentioned...
I'm kind of in the middle of no where working...and only get home to the island for a few days of the month. No photo courses up here in Northern Alberta!!!
Maybe I'll try the forum here first. :^) Get some opinions on my pix.

You have a very good point there, but would a forum such as these be able to provide a "good enough" basic "training" or "education" ?

Offcourse I guess the quality of the course depends on where you take it, but having a course that explains the basics of (digital) photography with a (d)SLR would also be a great plus.

I mean that you can advise me to use more or less DoF in a certain picture but IF I don't understand the basics (or what you mean with DoF or Dept of Field) how can I "learn" from your advise.

But like you said, a teacher can tell me my picture is bad while you might reply that it's "great" or "perfect" since that's personal (except for the more technical stuff I guess like Composition ??).

Back in the late 1980's I took their course and found it to be complete and everything they said it would be. the instructors were professional photographers and did a wonderful job. I was very pleased with the course.

Now on an afterthought, In any course you take in photography or any other study it is up to you to get the most out of the course. So I will say this for the money you will spend for the course you had better be willing to give the study and course 200% then you will not only get the most out of the course but also the most out of you.

There will probably be just as many opinions here as there are members and answers to the original question.

I had started a course back in the 70s - School of Modern Photography - I think I may have the courseware somewhere, anyway I couldn't finish it because I couldn't give it 100%. The fact remains it was well put together and definately worth it.

In those days it was correspondence via mail and took forever for me to get my replies to assignments.

With today's technology and the internet, that stumbling block in no longer there and, has the added advantage of asking direct questions to the instructor. You can ask the tutor direct questions and they, I'm sure will have to answer.

Fora are great and I've gotten many excellent answers, help and assistance but there still remains something missing. The questioner CANNOT expect to get an answer and many people just don't have the time to do that - there's no time for hand-holding.

With a course there is - that's what you're paying for to start with.

Joining a club can often be a scary experience, as we come face-to-face with eletists who will snub you because you own a PENTAX. Well, they can kiss my royal behind - it's not the camera, its the technique, the lighting and perhaps the glass.

Bottom line, courses are good.
