Is it sufficient that government (on behalf of its citizens) be able to verify the identity of the individual or is just having a stamp mark on your hand enough?

No. Business wants it. Liberals tend to be pro-civil liberties.

This plan doesn't seem to pose a threat on the face of things, but my instinct tells me that it's the kind of thing that could have consequences for civil liberties in the future, as well as possibly making it easier for businesses to track my online activity and 'profile me'. Since it otherwise doesn't seem particularly necessary, I'm against it.
