Ron Paul and Ralph Nader join forces

Yes one of the most liberal and most libertarian figures will be working together, with a surprising amount in common. Ron Paul, Ralph Nader agree on ‘progressive-libertarian alliance’ | Raw Story Among other things, they agree on military, the Patriot Act and Trade policy.

Ron Paul has always been close friends with Denis Kucinich too. As a libertarian I align idealogically with the democrats on social issues (although I disagree with the policy steps needed to reach those ideals) and the republicans on fiscal issues (although I disagree and am disgusted with their fealty to corporate agendas on these issues).

There's always been a great deal of overlap between Libertarian ideas and progressive ones: usually with a difference of opinion about the role of government as a protection from other kinds of power, like corporate or mob ones, and the whole 'rugged invdividualism' thing, ...the political spectrum in a sense, though, really isn't so much about right and left along a line, I think, though, so much as bent around in a circle where Greens and Libertarians actually tend to be pretty close to each other and overlap on a lot of things, like personal and social freedom, etc.

In a sense, the Libertarians have been bought out by conservative Republicans as an extreme-right party in terms of corporate-friendly-disempowering the people in the face of money concerns, etc, but there's always been that overlap in principle.

This isn't as odd as it may seem. Libertarians view big government and government control as the greater evil than the smoke screen issues that the Republican/Democrat/Liberal/Conservative politicians like to get the voters upset about. While Paul and Nader likely disagree an many issues, they both support a scaled down and common sense approach for government.
