Exactly! We had early warnings and and everyone was prepared for it, also the fact that since 1974 all buildings have to meet a building standard to withstand cyclones. Damage did occur but was minimal compared to what it may and could have been.
Was very lucky too miss 2 very large towns and go between them! Imagine if we take Tully for an example, reports are 50-70% of homes had damage to them, now imagine instead of a few 1000 people effected with that damage it was Cairns with around 170,000 people.
Bullet dodged big time but we still have 2 months of activity in the Coral Sea to go, and Feb/march normally the most active time as well
