Something to clean your equipment is a good idea, but don't bring methanol-based sensor cleaning solutions with you. They're on the "no fly" list.

How about adding to the list somebody to carry all that stuff? After traveling so much, I'm a firm supporter of the minimalist approach. Since the idea is going to Japan for vacation, not roaming on the internet, I'd leave the laptop and all it's paraphernalia at home (you have enough cards to not need it for that - and can always buy more). I'd also forget the large tripod and practice using indigenous things (trees, fences, etc) for camera support. I'd also compress the three lenses into a single 18-200+mm zoom, but not possible now since you're leaving so soon. I'd also cut luggage to the bare minimum, bringing only a selection of tasteful (not tourist) clothing. If done properly, one small to medium suitcase per person should be enough for two weeks or more. A shorter trip means even smaller suitcases. I'd also bring a small bottle of water and an energy snack or two for the flight. With all that out of the way and everything else carefully organized, you're free to concentrate on the trip. Enjoy.

The water is a good idea, but thanks to our "protectors" he'll have to purchase a bottle of water after clearing the security checkpoint. Gone are the days when we could bring our own...
