Watering down Obamacare

It seems like the health insurance reform that was so diligently written by the democratic leadership to be the best healthcare system in the history of the world keeps on getting modified...

First, there were the waivers for minimeds...
Then, they realized that the new 1099 tax was untenable and needs to be repealed...
Then, the individual mandate was found to be unconstitutuional (although that is pending appeal) which would blow denial of coverage for pre-existing conditions out of the water...
Now, they are going to make it easier for states to opt out of the new system altogether by throwing out whatever plan they want...

Am I the only one who feels like this thing is turning into a trillion dollar tax payer financed boondoggle that won't leave anyone healthier and will leave a whole lot of us poorer?

I'll take none of the above under the label "Obamacare."

Do not forget about all the Republican ammendents and the portions that the Democrats dropped to please the few GOP who sort of promised to vote for it if this or that was dropped. Obama dropped the public option due to pressure. When did he claim it to be the best in the world? When did he claim it to be even the best that was possible. What he did claim was it was the best that he could get passed at this time. We know that the 15 health care systems that are better than the American ones are all public univerisal health care which was never in play.

It is fine to dislike a politican and everything he stands for. It is fine to dislike a type of system or legislation, but to make totally unfounded claims to back your belief is not either fair or honest. Were the millions of uninsured Americans better off before the bill than after it? Or do they even count? What were the proposed alternatives since Hillary Clinton's attempt during which both parties had control of all three branches? Unlike the others Obama tried to fix some of the major problems with your system.

Government take over of the American health care system is either just parroting the right wing or total ignorance of what the words actually mean. Sorry if this sounds harsh but I followed the debate and it was a dishonest way of trying to defeat it by any means other than coming up with a better solution.

Where you do have total govenment control is with airlines. Do you realize the govt requires pilots to not only know how to fly planes but to be sober why doing so. Now that is something to be upset over, the govenment running the airlines with those unnecessary rules.

I was going to say illustrious democratic leadership... but your right, the democrats are just shills for the insurance industry. No wonder they got voted out in 2010.

I like Orrin Hatch's characterization.

For many discontent Republicans, the health care law passed by Democrats last year is known as "ObamaCare." For Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), however, it has reportedly been called a "dumb-ass program" and an "awful piece of crap."

I hate to tell you this, but if you wanted an 'Obamacare' to criticize, you should have told your GOP guys to preserve things like the public option and most of the real meat of it before complaining about the extra cost to preserve the sacred cow of corporate profits....

Weren't y'al whining about how 'private enterprise can't compete' not too long ago?

That's the freakin' *point.*

The cost's too damn high after all your corporate guttings.

It's still at least got a few more guarantees that if you can *pay* it the corporations can't decide to not pay out whenever they don't like a terminally-ill person's punctuation.

Oh, and it's actually still cheaper. Even just in the immediate term. But tell the GOP that.

I followed the debate too and those ammendments were done to satisfy democrats not to win republican votes.

And the new system would of course be targeted at leap frogging those 15 systems to be the best, otherwise why would we put so much effort and expense into it. We pay the most why not have the best?

As for the millions of uninsured americans... before and after nothing has changed. They are still uninsured today. In fact, more people were uninsured after the bill passed (50.7 million) than before the bill passed (46.3 million).

You need to stop reading press releases and look deeper.
The MICs buy whatever politicians they want.
What ever they need to stop competition.

They don't like that kind of thing.

It's a long painful exercise in why the public option was the best start.

Why anything benefiting the consumer is nothing the GOP wants,

And why single-payer is a management deal that would work if only we stopped flinching whenever someone said 'Socialist.'

It's a damn social thing. It's *supposed* to be *social-ist-ic.*

Stop killing the economy cause of Calvinism and if you want to compete at something, make us a freakin scanner that works, already. Blaming Democrats for no industry in the weathiest nation in the world on some belief that health care can't be good if it doesn't suck for most.. and all they'd have to do is calibrate a freaking focusing screen and they'd own anyone who ever changed lenses.

Now the MICs are lobbying to destroy anything that might improve competition, or........................................heaven forbid....................cut into profits.

CANCER------ the most profitable disease. Why is that even known?
