First it was to be free from England and the church of England, then came the Irish and integrating the Catholic doctrines into our society, the Jewish religion has always been part of the mix and now the Muslims and how Sharia will work into our society (or not). Happily we do not go out and burn people at the stake (at least not since that witch thing) for a different religious practice.

Quite true. The problem is that almost all religious law that has been around a while contains something that conflicts with U.S. laws, or something that another religion would find absurd or offensive. Interestingly, because of how many possibly disruptive practices there are, employers are actually required to accommodate religious practices less than, say, a disability.
