“It is we who plowed the prairies; built the cities where they trade;

Dug the mines and built the workshops, endless miles of railroad laid;

Now we stand outcast and starving midst the wonders we have made;

But the union makes us strong.”

-- Lyrics to “Solidarity Forever” the 1915 union anthem sung by government union protesters as police cleared them from the Wisconsin state capitol in Madison.
Casualties Mount in the Battle of Wisconsin - FoxNews.com

Oh what the heck.. whole thing.

QuoteQuote:
When the union's inspiration through the workers' blood shall run,
There can be no power greater anywhere beneath the sun;
Yet what force on earth is weaker than the feeble strength of one,
But the union makes us strong.

CHORUS:
Solidarity forever,
Solidarity forever,
Solidarity forever,
For the union makes us strong.

Is there aught we hold in common with the greedy parasite,
Who would lash us into serfdom and would crush us with his might?
Is there anything left to us but to organize and fight?
For the union makes us strong.

Chorus

It is we who plowed the prairies; built the cities where they trade;
Dug the mines and built the workshops, endless miles of railroad laid;
Now we stand outcast and starving midst the wonders we have made;
But the union makes us strong.

Chorus

All the world that's owned by idle drones is ours and ours alone.
We have laid the wide foundations; built it skyward stone by stone.
It is ours, not to slave in, but to master and to own.
While the union makes us strong.

Chorus

They have taken untold millions that they never toiled to earn,
But without our brain and muscle not a single wheel can turn.
We can break their haughty power, gain our freedom when we learn
That the union makes us strong.

Chorus

In our hands is placed a power greater than their hoarded gold,
Greater than the might of armies, magnified a thousand-fold.
We can bring to birth a new world from the ashes of the old
For the union makes us strong.

I believe that under modern industrial conditions it is often necessary, and even where not necessary it is yet often wise, that there should be organization of labor in order better to secure the rights of the individual wage-worker. All encouragement should be given to any such organization so long as it is conducted with a due and decent regard for the rights of others. There are in this country some labor unions which have habitually, and other labor unions which have often, been among the most effective agents in working for good citizenship and for uplifting the condition of those whose welfare should be closest to our hearts. But when any labor union seeks improper ends, or seeks to achieve proper ends by improper means, all good citizens and more especially all honorable public servants must oppose the wrongdoing as resolutely as they would oppose the wrongdoing of any great corporation.

A positive statement for more unions, with less regulation than has ever been made.
If a corporation is a citizen, than so must unions be.

I'm opening a new one sorry...

More for a "beware" for other states, though I'm not qualified to compare.

Does this bring up Wisconsin more, not at all like it does to respond to a thread that is headlined 'Obama Lies' if someone happens to run the press? Like every ti e something is said to refute ridiculous things, 'Omama lies' gets a headline bump?

I'l say the name of the state as much as needed. It speaks for itself. (Since Ohio got buried, especially)

Here's the result.

Wisconsin!

Possibly. Do you have any idea how likely it is I could end up within a 150 mile radius of Sheboygan in just a few months? I could be like escaping thinks-it's-cool-insane Fundie Apartheid and dropping into 'Someone has Turned Wisconsin Into Cheesehead Libya, aiming for 'failed state.'

My *Gods* man, do you know what this entails? I am too old for this stuff! *This* place is, sad to say, on its own. Don't make me come up there.

I think you don't understand, here. The Upper Midwest is full of people who don't understand why they're*nice.* Or supposed to be. When they're *not* nice, they tend to snap. You don't hear about it till a MacCathry or Bachman.. unlike down here where the same insanity is baseline. But up there,..... Very metaphorically 'haywire.' all that wire intended to contain hay, spinning all over the place. Not pretty. I'm from Boston and I can handle this, but the politics are *insane.* There we are.

Yes, I'm stressed out, though: aforementioned actual Libya references. It's one more place we can't go without taking our lives and futures in hand just cause some snontosed college expellee-for-cheating got elected on voter-un-psychedness.

I'm in the Upper Midwest, but I don't have that particular problem because I'm not all that nice. tease1
