I chose the Townie before I actually found a shop here in Greece that carried the Electra brand. I rode one in Amsterdam and fell in love with the seating position as well as the overall ride. (Not to mention their models are very cool indeed)

No offense taken. I thought it was an interesting experiment--just a pointless random thread about nothing (to quote Seinfeld) . So many of our discussions are so focused--to the point of obsession at times.

Anyway, I just bought a trophy lens--not something I intended to do when I got up this morning but there it was and I grabbed it.

Well, I was paying attention to the tires? I had an unfinished post left over from yesterday, when I got distracted/a little allergy-flattened.

My all time favorite road tire is, and probably always will be, the Panaracer T-Serve. Very "tacky' tire with micro tread and rain grooves. Works really well in all conditions.
*peeking online* Nice. Those look pretty darn good for the conditions down here. Not sure we can sell my sweetie on the price of something like that, but we'll see. They reasonably good on a (decent) dirt trail, perchance?

As good as anything short of a cyclocross tire. If you want to go that way, look at the Ritchey SpeedMax Cross. Just make sure there is enough clearance on the frame and fork for a 32mm wide tire.

Well, I got the packs and kitchen appliances listed. And re-listed some old stuff that didn't sell before -- will any suckers bite now? I'm up against a money crunch so I'd better list some lenses today. And my main work machine is still overheating. This will be a pain.

The snow here has mostly melted, it isn't much more than a foot deep over most of my clearing in the forest. The usual deer walk by in the shadows, and I just saw some wild turkeys scurrying amidst the undergrowth. Haven't noticed any skunks lately. Just as well.

Then I'm reminded of the time Keith Richards was visiting a commune in the Mendocino coast mountains, at the village of Comptche. Plenty of smoke and homebrew beer were passed around. Keith went into the bushes to relieve himself, and was struck by a rattlesnake. Medical care was urgently applied, but it was no use -- within a half-hour, that snake was dead.

In the San Diego coast mountains, on the old road from the Salton Sea to Julian, a bridge washed out. The county road department put up a sign, DANGER! BRIDGE OUT! but after a couple years, nobody had gone over the edge, so they took the sign down.

Yeah, we're unlikely to need that, it's just if we do go kind of expensive, I'd like them to last, even on unpaved bike trails. These are pretty skinny rims, what are the tires, 26c or something, think they're 1 inch rims if I recall correctly, which means they only come so off-roadey, it seems.

I've long thought that I might take these rims for some ride of my own and give sweetie something a little fatter.

But, I'd forgotten that around when we were last talking bikes here, she was fairly enthused about just getting herself something a little more of an off-roadey hybrid and maybe just using the Fuji for races. And us riding together in general. I suppose we'll see.

The rim is only a limiting factor in that the tire has to be wider than the rim. It doesn't matter how much wider. A 50+mm MTB tire on a 19mm wide rim is perfectly fine, but if this is a true road bike, particularly and older one, it is unlikely that the frame and/or fork will allow a tire much wider than 25. Depending on how old it is, it may even be a 27" and not a 700c so your tire choices would be more limited.

The Hound is somewhere laying down, it's raining outside, nothing to list and make a million dollars with, and whatever is playing on the television is giving me a headache. I guess I'll get up and get the remote...........
