Coupling 2 50mm lenses

I've seen people couple 2 50mm lenses. Certainly, one can't use a revering ring or a step-up or step-down so...

... so you need the right sort of adapter, obviously, with a filter thread on each side.

They're quite hard to find, or they were when I looked a while back - haven't looked recently. I want one with a 49mm filter thread on both sides.

You could always make your own with a few cheap filters that you scavenge the rings off of, and a bit of epoxy.

Damn good idea Chako.

It's always great to share thoughts. Thanks Chris and Chako.

It is a damn good idea. I even have a couple of cheap filters that would do the job, and the glue.

More to the point, it sounds easy enough even for me to do (and believe me, with my DIY skills, it needs to be!!).

I got my lens reversing coupler from b and h. It was cheap (I believe around $10) and works flawlessly.

Two identical focal length lenses = 1:1 reproduction!

Edit: See if this link works: coupler | B&H Photo Video

Thanks Matiki but B&H doesn't really think I would be stupid enough to pay 27 bucks shipping for an 8 dollar coupler do they? They're BIGGER thieves than the ones on EB.

But hey, thanks for trying - I appreciate it.

You’re welcome.

I made my own 50mm lens reverser for macro doing the same to a 49mm filter ring and a 58mm step up ring along with some 5 minute epoxy. Works great.

I'm curious as to why you would want to couple 2 50mm lenses. Best outcome I can see is a 1x magnification telescope which doesn't seem very useful. Maybe I missed something.

I didn't notice you were in Canada.

They were quite reasonable with me, they only took my left hand.

It's not 1x magnification, it's 1:1 reproduction.

If a bug is 2cm long, it's 2cm long on your sensor. Thats HUGE.

This thread should help:

I did make my own, thanks Chako. Discovered in the meantime, a good lens retaining ring remover.

I used a devider/scriber of the type used in Tool and Die/Mould making. It is strong and won't bend.

I wouldn't mind getting one myself.

Living in a border town does have some advantages.
I can get it shipped to the other side for about $5.00 (we might be able to get 2 sent for the same $5.00 shipping)

I could probably throw it in an envelope for around $1.00 and mail it to you.

My guess is that the total cost including shipping, taxes and so on would probably be around the $20.00 mark each, if you'd be interested.

Let me know.
