I hate hdr

Sorry, guys, I just had to get it out. I think it really blows. Although I have seen maybe 3 or so of them that I thought were a rather clever use, but I already don't remember what they were.

Do you guys think that it will ever go away? Please do not disappoint me, please.

No it will not go away, it is not a fad. The only people that hate HDR are a sub section of photographers which make up <1% of the population. 99% of the population love it even if they have no idea at all how it was achieved.

You don't wanna be disappointed - you'll have to give up photography and not browse photo magazines.
It's everywhere, but when done well is not so noticeable and actually quite appealing.
Don't fret over it. It's just like any good thing - mostly abused, seldom mastered.

I like it .. when its done in a way it barely shows.. Personaly I don't care for the overly exaggerated ones.. They look more like oil paintings than photos to me..

I just found out about it and have tried it. When used properly, it should be a great tool when difficult lighting comes into play. It is fun to play around with it. I reminds me of working in my dark room years ago. It makes photography interesting to work with again. Just mark it down as another tool to help you out if needed.

Than I'm one of the 1%. Most people who use HDR don't know how to use it or they are overdoing it. In my humble opinion most don't look like pictures anymore. Don't get me wrong, I like processing and manipulating, but HDR doesn't appeal to me at all. There are a few who use it wisely so it doesn't scream into your face:HDR!!!!! And those I like. My 2000 lires.

HDR is just a tool to help one create photographic art. Nothing wrong with that.

I use it a lot with the goal of trying to achieve a look that is not HDR. Aperture is my main PP so layers are not an option for bringing out the detail in high contrast situations. Since DSLR arrived, I bracket frequently so the option to use HDR is readily available. I've tried a few programs, by the way, but NIK is the one that works for me. You can back off the effect until it's virtually unnoticeable but still get closer to what I think my eyes saw.

Nik is probably the best deal in plugin's imho. You can get the complete selection of tools for lightroom or aperture for < 250 bucks. A bit more for the PS plugins that work with layers. Worth every penny.

I use my K-7 in HDR mode for high-dynamic-range imaging to get what I see with my eyes and not to get an image that looks Photoshopped.

Here is what many people think HDR should look like:
